Hello fellow reefers, my first question.
Was wondering if anyone has had any success on using sponges, as some sort of filtration method.
Ive heard of people dedicating a tank to Kenya tree, Xenia,Feather dusters or Aptasia, sometimes not willingly!
I would assume that some organisms are better at using certain "impurities" good or bad.
I will also assume that growing chaeto would consume N/P/K and valuable trace elements, more than say a sponge, however that sponge must be better at using some sort of waste than the chaeto.
Would i be safe to say that a sponge would need more complex organic waste to survive than say chaeto, or that Aptasia would be better at capturing and utilizing stray food particles(flakes/mysis) than a sponge?
So i guess what im asking is what organism in short would be better for what? if anyone has a dedicated tank for this reason any thoughts or lessons learned?
