thoughts on a DAS skimmer

Hey, I have read a lot of mixed reviews about a DAS protein skimmer, on WWM a lot of people love them and say they are really nice and all. I would be using it for skimming a semi-heavily stocked 40 g w/ a 20g sump, oh yeah, one more thing... it would be FREE so I wouldnt be paying almost $500 for it and than think that I should have gone w/ a euro reef for the money spent. I originially was going to go w/ a CSS 65 but than I got the offer from a friend... its also brand new still in the box but just collecting dust because a tank was never set up to use it

They are good skimmers. PUTATIVELY, they are essentially the previous generation design Deltec Turbo Skimmer. NOTHING wrong with that.

I'm on my second one. Used to run an EX-1 5 or 6 years ago. Currently run a EX-2. Excellent skimmer for the money. They are definately better then Euroreefs. I had an 8-2, but sold it because of the noise issues.

I ran a BX-1 and have just upgraded to a BX-2 (as you can see in my signature). They are simple and pull out tons of crap. I love it and I think they kind of get no reputation because there is only one store out there that sells them (that I know of) Petorama.com.

I have always got mine used. I have had mine for about 4 years and have never cleaned one thing but the collection cup. AWESOME in my opinion. And a good price!

They are essentialy cheaper made Deltec copies and also have Aquabee pumps. I believe they are actually licensed by Deltec to make their skimmers. So they are good skimmers for the money. However, I have heard a lot of bad things about quality of workmanship at times. Its either hit or miss I guess.

I have had a lot of experience with these skimmers, there ex series is one of the best skimmers out there imo. Theres no reason not to use it, the only reason I dont use one is the price.
