Thoughts on a modified SeaClone Skimmer

Was wondering how many of you guys have used a SeaClone? Also wondering what your thoughts are on a modified SeaClone. I modified one and am very shocked at how well the modifications made the thing work. At first, the SeaClone is a piece of junk out of the box. The skim you get right out of the box is light brown and it takes forever to get it. Once I cut the riser tube down about an inch or so (maybe a little more) and cut the riser in the cup down a bit, the Skimmer became a whole different piece of work! The thing now opperates like a champ, no joke! SHOCKED, I am! I am now getting millions of tiny bubbles and skim is NASTY. The mods were easy, all that was needed was a little patience and a dremmel tool. What do you guys think about your modified cheap skimmers?

I also have the SeaClone skimmer, but was confused on how to do one of the mods.

How do you get to the inner tube to cut it down. The outer tube keeps blocking my hand and fingers from reaching the inner tube.

Please advise on how to do that mod.

Please
Mike

You have to take out the gasket and then the large inner tube just slides out. Once you do that, get a dremmel with a cutting wheel and start cutting little by little till you get off as much as you want. Very easy and if you have thick hands, it will be a tough task. It was very tough for me but I took my time and got it done. It was well worth it! The money spent seems well worth it after making the mods.
I was skeptical when I first read about the mods but like I said, I am shocked at what a difference they make. I do not recomend anyone to buy one that is not willing to make the modifications, as this thing is a piece of junk before hand. Oh well, read and learn. Thats what these forums are here for!

I did not see a gasket on the top of the skimmer to remove. Thats why I'm confused...Can you forward a picture? or explain how to take the gasket out?

Mike

The gasket is what holds your collection cup tight. Once you remove the large tube, you just stick the dremmel down and cut it. tight squeeze but not that hard to do.
