Thoughts on coil denitrator

those ebay ones are gonna be junk. exposing the coil to light will encourage algae growth which will render it useless.

grab yourself a one pound plastic folgers coffee can, buy about 75 feet (YMMV) of standard airline and a cheapo (lee's) airline valve (to adjust the flow). coil the airline into the can, pop two holes in the lid and run both ends of the airline thru it and put the valve on one end. feed water to it and adjust the drip to about 4 drops a second. the drip rate will vary on the set up, but basically, after 2-3 weeks, you test the effluent from the valve, if the nitrates are lower than your tank, it's working. if you get ammonia or nitrites, that usually means it's running to fast and you need to throttle down the drip rate until you register lower nitrates.

that's the cliff notes version of it, YMMV, IMO, IME, etc.
