Thoughts on Diablo DC pumps

Good morning all.

I am now looking for a new pump solution for the 187. I have a lead on Diablo DC 10500 pumps available for immediate shipping. It seems like the Diablo DCs have been out for a while but I can't find very many reviews on them. Was hoping someone local had some experience and could chime in. Planning on placing the order today.

Thanks in advance

I have a friend that has one. Highly recommended. When I replace my pumps I will be switching over to a diablo.

The ramping up of the pump is brilliant not to mention multiple speeds.

Just ordered the Diablo DC 10500. Review forthcoming once installed.

Is your understanding that this pump can be run externally?
I have a DC3500, and it doesn't seem to be external, as the rear of the motor block is open from the impeller shaft, thus pushing water out.

The diablo DC 10500 should arrive from UPS today. As far as I have been able to verify, these can be run externally and are for some of the later skimmers in the series. Ill let you know how it goes. The hope is to plumb it today as well.

This is a shot of the rear of (my) motor block, once the red rear cover removed. After a few minutes of running the pump, the rear cover pushed off from the flow, and exposed was the big hole that showed the impeller shaft.

While nowhere it specifically states that the pump can be run externally, it does state for closed loop. Can't remember last time I saw a closed loop pump that was internal ;)

Be interested what your pump looks like. Mine could certainly be a QA one off.

Thanks for the info and the pic. Now I'm concerned that this may not work out. I'll post pics tonight when I get home and start to install.

I believe bean animal runs his close loop and return with the wave lines. Biggest complaint I've seen is with the threads.

Stylo,

I spoke with Jeremy @ CoralVue - You shouldn't have any issues with your 10500.

The DC 3500 is not an external pump. The smallest External use pump is the 5500, and 10500 is as well external.
The reason it states Closed Loop use is because Jeremy apparently uses his 3500 in the overflow for his closed loop - IMHO this is crap, as most people will power their CL from an external pump, not a wet internal only. 6 here, 1/2 dozen there...
Between the closed loop specification and the lack of clear statement that this is an internal only pump, versus the 5500 & 10500 - most everyone will be under the understanding that this pump is external.

bought one of these to use as return pump. super silent. it didnt come with a front mesh or particle sieve. i love the fact that i can adjust flow by pressing on plus or minus buttons and can press feed button to stop for ten min.

Thank you for posting this. I was worried when I read your post and saw the picture. Feel much better now! Thanks

I have a Diablo 10500 I use it internally as the o ring seal s seems a bit cheap so I didn't risk using it on my inline but instead piped it to my internal return plumbing

(what is it with RC not rendering the BBCode properly. IMG and QUOTE tags seem to be ignored - anyone else having this issue, or is it just me?)
