Thoughts on this RO/DI filter, and what lighting should I use?

Hello, I'm currently looking at parts to potentially pick up for my setup and I'm trying to find a cheap ro/di unit in Canada. One of the cheaper 4 stage ones I found was this one. Now, I'm wondering if this would be sufficient for what I need.

Also, I'm trying to decide what lighting I should go with for my tank. I saw this metal halide for around $25 at my LFS today and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. It's used from what I can see, and there was one next to it that was out of box but the same price. Is this thing worth the money? How long do the bulbs usually last on these guys? Would I need more than one for a 30g (roughly 36x13x19)? I've been trying to figure out for a while now whether I wanted LEDs or MH for my tank and I've read a lot of conflicting opinions. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Apparently you can't edit the original post in a thread, so I'm just adding this in there. I'm debating whether I should build a DIY stand for the tank I'm planning on using. I currently have it on my dresser and there's quite a bit of overhang, about 2-1/4 inches on either side when I have it perfectly centered. Front to back it fits perfectly fine, just not side to side. Now, I'm wondering if this is alright, or if it'd cause structural problems. I'd rather not build a DIY stand unless it's totally necessary. I appreciate the feedback.

Not sure about that RODI unit but it might be OK, at least it comes with a free TDS unit. I'd recommend the value unit from BRS (75gpd). I just got one and love it. What are you planning on putting in your tank?

That's a pretty amazing price for a MH light, though I grow cheato with a 6500 ordinary CFL daylight floodlight. It should get spread enough, and it might be worth a try. Myself, I ditched my mh system as just not doing the job in a 'deep' tank (30" plus). I lost a bunch of corals before I realized the problem. If you keep soft coral it should do the job; if you keep lps, it might do the job.

Don't think it'd do the job for a 20 deep tank? I was hoping it could possibly do SPS, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I'm not actually sure what I want to stock yet. Ordering from BRS isn't an option sadly as shipping to Canada sort of kills it.

I can't say much about the light, except that it's a really good price for that kind of light.

As for the RODI unit, my concern is with the horizontal resin container. When I got my RODI filter it had a horizontal resin container. I swapped it out for a dual vertical unit after awhile because it was just too hard to stop channeling.

There are a number of people here who design and sell RODI systems, maybe one of them can help you?

Where could I find the people selling them?

when I was shopping for a ro/di system I went with http://www.marinedepot.com/Marine_D..._Systems-Marine_Depot-MD9115-FIRORDNH-vi.html

its a little pricey but uses standard size cartridges, which in the long run saves you money, tds going in to membrane is around 0.070 and coming out creeps down to 0.001 after 4 or 5 min.

you could always go with http://www.marinedepot.com/Marine_D..._Systems-Marine_Depot-MD9113-FIRORDNH-vi.html

no tds meter, no presser gauge, and no flush kit

Shipping just kills it. $60 shipping for the unit just sort of seems excessive.

The three that come to mind is

Buckeye hydro
Bulk reef supply
Air water and ice.

they are all sponsors. Any one of them would be willing to help you out, especially buckeye, they seem pretty active on the advice forums.
