Thoughts on this setup

I am currently running my 215 with the 40 gallon sump I had on my 125. It is now time to work on transitioning from the 40 gallon to the 125 for the sump.

I am looking to put the 125 behind the 215 tank. I am thinking about having the 125 sit in its stand and plumb the drain lines from 215 through the to drain lines of the 125 coming in from the bottom and spilling out over the overflow boxes.

I may either cut the overflow boxes down because of the closeness of the top of the tank or remove the teeth from the overflows all together.

Does anyone see any inherent problems with this setup?

Does anyone have pics of similar setups?

Sounds feasible to me, but are the drain lines on the 125 in the bottom of the tank? You might have trouble pushing the water all the way up, through the overflows seeing as how gravity would be working against you. Maybe you could plug the drain holes in the 125 and let the drain line from the 215 flow into the overflow from the top, then eventually start spilling over. I would definitely cut the height down a bit though and remove the teeth because you are going to be dealing with quite a bit of flow from the 215. I would also put LR rubble in the overflow to help with bubbles. Cool idea...

Yes, they are on the bottom.

Your point about gravity has merit.

I was planning on having the water travel about half way up the pipe before spilling over.

Plugging the holes and going into the overflow from above has its merits but I was looking to close off most of the top of the sump to cut down on evaporation.

I guess I could come in from the top and cut holes in the plexiglass for the pipes.

Any other thoughts?
