Threadfin cardinals, blue eyed cardinals

Do threadfin cardinals grow into near total transparency as they get older?
Or do you get whatever you start with, and there is a lot of normal variation within the species.

I like the near fully transparent ones.
;- ) Trying to find out if I need to buy them that way.

Thanks

They change color a lot. Mine go from pretty transparent to bright blue eyes and accents for a lack of a better word. They seem to be very mood dependent.

I have a small group for almost a year now and they have stayed relatively the same color. But the highlights have gotten more vibrant- the blue eye highlights and the gold bars

Do these guys tend to hang out together / school? I was considering the blue eyed Cardinals for my 180..

Yes, they do, definitely. Especially if you have other bigger, more aggressive fish in there like a tang or angel. They'll naturally form a picking order and have just 1 dominant leader. They'll gang up for strength. My thread fins like to school and scatter along the rock's edge. None of my other cardinals school. One other thing is I have several different cardinals in tank including tank raised bengai, but none of them take refuge in my long spine urchin, which is pretty big.
