Three questions about blue tang having ich

Hi RC. I have a few questions

I bought a 40 gallon tank from petco to place my blue tang it to treat for ich.

1. Does the tank need to by cycled or should i use Prime everyday? I have a brute trash can that is cycled with lons of live rock. If I placed that rock and water in the tank it would almost instantly be cycled Or should I use Prime everyday with new water? Very confused

2. Do I use copper or hypo-salinity?

3. Are there other treatment?

A QT should be nothing by heater, powerhead/air pump, possibly a PVC elbow for something to hide in and around, and possibly a "filter." As long as you follow this, there is absolutely no reason to cycle a tank because there is nothing in there to die off.

Please follow the words of lmforbis- NEVER put Prime in with copper!

Hyposalinity comes with risk just as copper treatments do. Copper I found difficult because you have to maintain the exact copper levels to be successful. When you start to account for evaporation and then water changes it ends up being a major head. That, and the fact that it is really not a healthy choice for the fish makes me not like the idea of copper treatment. Some will swear by it, but most of the more seasoned on here will support TTM and for a very good reason (I now understand why they are so supportive of it- it WORKS)!

If you are able, I would get a second tank (or you could even use a brute so long as you have a second powerhead and heater) and follow the TTM. It is not difficult and causes little to no stress on the fish going through it. The only thing is, you have to be very careful to not cross contaminate the two tanks as you are doing it with other equipment you may use (pipettes, etc).

Regardless of which you decide to do, absolutely no sand or rock in the QT!

It looks like everybody agrees to get rid of ich on my beautiful fish I should do the tank transfer method then.

Just to be clear, if you treat the fish for ich you need to also get rid of it in the tank before you put him back in or else he will be reinfected.
