have any of you guys ever kept this alive? If so, how?

So far I'm pretty sure no one has successfully kept them alive. I know for sure Chinchai who has the DSPS tank in Thailand 1000g+ and he tried them a couple of times in his softie/nps tank and they died in weeks.
