Time for a doser! which one?

So after lots and lots of testing I've been comfortable with the amount i've been dosing. I manually dose but over the last two months I've been spreading out the dosing into different times of the day and seem to be getting better results.

well I'm tired of doing that so i need a doser. What do you guys recommend? i want to just go out and do it right so what is the best? I see bubble magus 3 part doser for around $299, and the pro flux for $399.

It seems pretty up there and open to saving some money if someone has something used in good condition they want to sell. Looking for one solid unit and not wanting to buy timers as well. Please let me know what you guys/gals use yourselves and how you like it.

Yeah I've had a bubble magus for over a year now and it's a solid unit and does exactly what I need.

i was in the group buy but never got my stuff, Delivered, UPS said they left it at my door. I live a few blocks away from a high school so my guess is kids saw it on my door and took it. But my wife was home and said she never saw the UPS guy, my porch makes lots of noise when you walk up to it and can't miss anyone. Jokes on the kids if it was them to find out it was just some useless brown sand (GFO).

BRS said they would fix it and get me my items but i don't want to order from them until they fix it.

anyone have the proflux? I hear good results for the bubble magus but the pro flux does the calculating for you

I use the prolifux and have zero complaints!! plug and play, and can measure down to 1ml/day if needed!!!

I have BRS's own dosers and love them. If you get your initial issue resolved, I can't say anything bad about my dosers from BRS

bubble magus..love the doser..had a problem with a couple of the heads poping off, but they sent me replacements for free..even after the warranty expired.

I was thinking about the BRS dosers but I want to minimize clutter. is the Bubble magus one box one power cord?

You may also want to take a look at the Marine Magic dosers. Very affordable and decent reviews on here as well. There is a long thread about it if you search.

I haven't been able to search for anything for the last day keep receiving this message and have notified the administrator:

I have both the old and new version of the Marine Magic pumps. Both have been veryreliable. The best part is that replacement motors are dirt cheap. I have a spare motor lying around (was given to me by the seller for free), but have not needed to use it.

I have both Bubble Magnus and Profilux and would spend the extra money for three reasons, although they both work very well.

#1 German quality verses China is easy to see if you look close

#2 I did have issues with the heads popping off on the BM and will see if I can get some replacements, I used some superglue gel and it did the trick, but never had a problem with Profilux. A head popping off can overdose your tank with a siphon or underdose not getting anything.

#3 To manually dose a little extra the Profilux has a red button on the front which is handy when priming the pump. The problem with the BM is if you switch it to manual mode and have to hold a button that is hard to push down. The main problem though and I have done it more than once. If you accidently leave the BM in manual mode or program mode it will not dose until put back to auto. The Profilux will always dose the set amount.

I think the German quality and features make up for the price in my experience and
Profilux is getting much easier to get in the US without having to pay Canada shipping.

Good luck and one more thing you can do with the Profilux is set the time of each split of a dose this allows you to dose alk and CA when your lights are on and your corals are uptaking it or would allow you to dose Kalk at night to help keep PH more stable. Adding a forth doser is cheaper than having to buy a second 4 dosing unit. With the Profilux you can pick a day to dose as well so you can set it to dose amino or vitamin c every Wednesday and Sunday.

I will be selling my BM doser 7 doser setup when my new system is up and running maybe 3 months from now if everything goes well.

I'm leaning towards the profilux but am considering the marine magic. I only want the marine magic because of the price but I already know that in this hobby you can't be cheap. I don't want to spend money one one just to buy another or upgrade after a couple of years.

Scott, that review is just what I was looking for since I was boggled between the profilux and BM. I think if I'm going to spend the money of a BM I might as well spend the extra for the profilux. I am going to research for a couple days see some more reviews.

Jadeite, what is different about the new vs. old? Would I know if I bought the new one or old one?

I have the Marine Magic doser and it has been running perfectly or over a year. Very happy with it.

Mechanically, the older and newer model are the same. They both use the same motors.

The user interface on the newer model is more intuitive and user friendly with more options to program, but I didn't really care for this since I was already used to programming the older model and had all the quirky programming features figured out.

From an electrical perspective, the newer model uses internal RAM, so that in case of a blackout, your programming info would be stored. The older version used a battery backup when power went out, but once the battery dies, you would lose everything if you lose power or unplug it. Unfortunately, on the newer model with just internal RAM, there's nothing to keep the real time clock running with a loss of power, so you end up resetting the clock each time you lose power (which would not happen with a battery backup). Ideally, the doser should be designed with both internal memory and a battery backup. It's really the only negative about the doser, but not something that I particularly worry about, since I do not care if I am dosing at 12a or 12p, just as long as during a 24 hour period, the amount I'm dosing is consistent. And again, this is only a problem if you lose power, in which case what time your doser is working is usually the least of your worries.

That was quite a mouthful from me. Hope it made sense.
