Time heals all wounds??

As many of you know, following a complete new build of my tank and some success, my tank suffered from a severe (and I mean biblical) outbreak of what I'm pretty sure was bryopsis. This was absolutely demoralizing and nearly made me drop out of the hobby.

Well, to make a long story short, I basically ignored my tank for a few months. No feeding, skimmer cleaning or pretty much anything else. I was so ticked off by the tank, I didn't even want to look at it.

A few days ago, I forced myself (actually, my daughter kind of gave me an ultimatum) and I looked at the tank. Low and behold, the bryopsis is basically gone. Amazingly, the fish are still alive and well although the anthias is a little skinny. Most of the small SPS frags I had are gone but most of the Zoas are fine.

I'm going to do some big water changes and try to get the detritus (I'm guess ing mostly dead bryopsis) out of the tank but I have a good feeling about this. My guess (and that is all it is) is that the bryopsis used up just about all of the nitrates and/or phosphates in the tank and then, the nitrogen cycle cleaned up the rest.

I tested the levels in the tank and Nitrates are unreadable, phosphates are pretty close (although the test kit bites), Ca and kH look fine.

Perhaps time does heal all wounds.

Great to hear!

I went through a similar phase myself with green hair algae, and had the similar ftustrations.

I'm glad to hear you're back in the saddle, and ready to pick up where you left off!

Thanks AZBigJohn. What killed me was that I had really worked hard on the new build. Everything seemed to be dialed in well and livestock was flourishing. Within about two weeks, I was basically looking at a front lawn in Seattle. Amazing how fast it grew.

I'm still a little saddle sore (I really don't like horseback riding) but at least I got back on the Mustang.

Glad things worked out and you didn't give up!!! Hope that carne asada marinade recipe worked out for you
