time to add LR

Whats up guys. Quick, hopefully simple question. I mixed my water up this past friday in my 29G. At which time I ofcourse turned on my powerheads and heater. I used reef crystals. Its now monday night and the water is testing perect yet it is still a bit cloudy with residue at the bottom. Would it be ok to add the live rock tomorrow or no? Any tips? Thanks guys!

The water shouldnt be cloudy after the weekend, did u add to much salt? Or do u mean cloudy from sand? either way, if the salts gone and ur SG is corret add ur LR

You could've added live rock the day after you mixed the saltwater and dumped it into your tank. It's the die off from the live rock that's going to set your water parameters wild and cause a cycle. The same if you decide to add sand. I'd suggest you determine if you're going to use barebottom or a sand/crushed coral substrate before you begin adding fish. Adding live sand will cause another cycle, although potentially smaller than when you added the live rock, it will still cause your levels to spike which will put your fish in a stressed/lethal environment.

Best of luck with your tank!

**EDIT** What's your salinity at? This could be a reason for the cloudiness.

What kind of residue? If it is related to mixing salt in tank, then I'd siphone it out, and then add LR. Idealy, there shouldn't be any cloudness if you have only saltwater.

Residue from the salt. I added the right amount of salt. Did everything by the book EXCEPT I think I may have added to much salt at once. No clue.

This is very strange... water + salt shouldn't have stayed cloudy after a few hours. Lets start from the begining:
1. did you wash your tank before filling with water? (did you use any soaps?)
2. what type of water did you fill with? (tap, RO/DI, distilled, spring, :) )
3. What salt brand do you use? (and is it a fresh salt?)
4. What is your water temp? salinity? (1.022 I hear)

TekCat, thanks for the replies. I washed the tank with tap water...no soap. I used ro/di water. I used reef crystals bought from a reputable store a couple days before dissolving. My salinity is now at 1.025..raised it alittle. I put a bag of carbon in the final chamber of my cpr bakpak lastnite and turned it on to see if it would help. Got home from work today and it seemed to have hleped. Or maybe its just the additional time the water has been sitting. There is still alittle bit of sediment at the bottom. I have read that could possibly be calcium from the reef crystals but who knows, im a rookie. Your help is much appreciated!
