Well, just bought a house and guess what comes next!! Thats right, instead of transfering my 55gal tank, i bought a used 96*24*24 tank, stand and canopy from a college in oklahoma (its a shame when the college just wants to get rid of something like that and i just happend to get it). Now I just have to get enough people to help me move the tank inside the garage and fill it with fresh water and then clean the inside of it.

a little up date

a little up date

Sorry reefers, this thread might take a little while. Im not the fastest moving person in the world. but here is a little update, not to mention that im still trying to figure how to do the whole picture thing. here goes noting!

Very nice. Its fine that its going to take time thats one of some good things in the hobby is not to rush things. But its good you are making progress.

this is what its looking like after a little elbow grease, vinegar, and a razor blade, not to mention a few coats of pledge to bring the wood back to life. I think after one more tank clean and maybe one more polishing, im going to fill it with more than 6inches of water and give it its first real test. not sure yet, but we will see

I wondered what happened to that tank... Are you going to use the mile high canopy that was on it?

Keep the pictures coming I'd like to see how this turns out.

yea, there is a place in my house that i bought where it will fit perfect and look built in. but when its in the house i will really know. How are you associated with the tank?? just curious

do you know anything about the equipment that it had? its missing the filtration and stuff like that. it has the bottom tank but i didnt know what knd of skimmer and other equipment was used? I wasnt the one that went and got it, a friend of mine went. he lives in oklahoma and he met me a the texas border. it kept me from driving 6 hous or so. any info like that would be great. im always open for info and sugestions

I dont really know much about what equipment the tank was using. It was more for keeping my kids entertained when I had them at the meetings. They could find all sorts of things to look at like watch fish swim the length of the tank darting in and out of the rock work.

I only briefly looked at the tank as I was mildly interested but it was only a sligh upgrade from my current tank so I didn't persue it very far, just was curious as to what had happened to it since noone on our local forums had posted about thier "new" tank yet.

Alright, we have a tank full of tap water in the garage. the sump is clean and now im trying to picture what im doing with plumbing? I have some good ideas but im not sure what kind of sand im going to buy? I need some ideas. Of course i need a bunch because im filling a 8ft tank! (im all about saving money!)

Lets see, i bought all 4 bags of oolic that my LFS had so I got 2 bags of the agranite sea floor to finish off my snad purchase, its a little more course but I think it will work and look good. Then I got a bucket of ociantic salt, enough to make 200gal. Then I bought a Eshopps PSK-300 Skimmer. I know that there arnt any threads about this skimmer, but my LFS said thay they have them running in some of there customer tanks and they work good so I got one on the tearms that if it was a POS that i could bring it back. Whats wrong with that kind of a guarantee. hope to get the tank in the house tonight or tomorrow and start setting things up.

Its time for some help from the big tank reefers. I just bought 100 lbs of dry rock, Is there anything i need to put on it before i put it in my tank and seed it with the rest of my live rock? also, My tank came with a full canopy and i have heard lots of different things about canopys. How much humidity is produced? being builtin, I have the ability to vent it in the attic or in to the room. i need some opinions. if its mainly heat that is produced then is it a good idea to vent in to the attic or if there is a lot of humidity then i guess its a bad idea. the lights that came with the tank a re 3 400watt metal halites.

Theres nothing like a fresh batch of salt water and sand, I cant wait till the water clears so I can see how that oolic sand looks in my tank

I figured everyone would like to see my skimmer (Eshopps PSK-300) and my custom collection container. (there is a 5 gal jug for comparison)
