Time to join the club!!

you will note the difference in color...
when i ordered my last set of bulbs, i only ordered 3-400w Ushio 14k bulbs.
so i pulled an old XM 400w 20k off the shelf (used of curse)
this should tide the fish and corals over till i can order new bulbs... (and maybe save enough to get another pendant)

also, note the sweet corals and SPS and growth!
all that was achieved with just 3 MH's. and some VHO actinic's!

everyone says you need 1 light per 24", but i guess i defied that haha.
but i now have the said required light spread, so maybe my growth will go faster and have more color!! haha
which i wont say no to!

UPDATE!!!

On January 19 (saturday) i decided to use some ChemiClean to get rid of some green slime i had been dealing with for a while.....

On Satuday about lunch time, i decided to does.
The container says it treats up to 300 gal.
i dosed 2/3 of the container.

Things are fine.

Sunday, i dosed the remaining of the container. (i didnt want to do an initial full dose, so i stepped it up.)

the container says 48 hours, so i was thinking 24 hours with a 2/3 dose and 24 hours with a full dose.

Sunday started fine, and then sunday night when i got home, the tank was looking a little hazy/cloudy.
talking with other people, this is said to be normal.

Monday morning, i woke up to a horrific aroma lingering in my house.....

i went to my fish tank (because it was time to do my water change after treating with ChemiClean)

with the lights off, i did a 45 gal water change.

after about an hour.... my lights started turning on and this is what i saw....

I called my LFS and took some pictures.
we discussed many things and finally we took a new container of ChemiClean off the shelf. we then took the provided spoon, and scooped all the contents out. we came to the conclusion that there are over 400+ gal of chemical (if scooping individually)
The package says up to 300.... but also says not to overdose.....

SOOOO..... i guess i overdosed the chemical and caused a large bad thing.....:headwally::headwally::headwally::headwally::headwally::headwalls::headwalls::headwalls:

My LFS owner loaned me containers and allowed me to pick up 200 Gal of Fresh Salt water and also gave me some carbon and other additives.

I went home and did as close to 100% water change as i could.

during the water change..... i pulled all the obvious dead stuff.....

Dang that totally sucks. Sorry for your losses. I saw some nice sized colonies in your tank before treatment. Hopefully some will pull through.

Today (Tuesday Jan 22 2013)
i woke up and turned on 1 light to see the current status....
There were fish swimming.... but thats about all the good info i can give...

Here is the current DOA status as of 9:00 this morning.....

as sad is this looks........ here are some good things i can say....
most of my corals started as 1/2"-1" frags..... you can see the bases and plugs still on these corals.... so thats a positive... (i didnt buy or harvest large pieces from the ocean)

I got home today after class.... and i found a few more casualties.....

photobucket-5003-1358887813756.jpg

Here is clam number 2...... (2 down... 3 ore to go for a total of all my clams.....)
photobucket-4671-1358887812636.jpg

you can see the first clam in the upper part of the first picture...... (sad day when a huge maxima dies... as well as the current ORA Durasa.. (how ever you spell it))

Man even your clams were very good size. Did anything make it besides the fish or did you loose all the corals?

one brain and one favia that were huge still had color, so i gave them to a friend. they started looking good yesterday at his house. so maybe they will make it.

i have a few leathers that are ok, and probably 10 candycane (trumpet) heads that might make it (out of probably 100)

i have a volleyball size octopus coral (frogspawn) that might make it...... its still iffy.....
only a few Zoas have opened, but 90% of them are still closed...

but overall, i would have to say about a 85-90% coral loss......
all the fish made it. so thats good.

This stinks. So the package was wrong? It read 300 gallon treatment but it contained enough for 400 gallons?

thats what we came up with.......
im not saying we are right or they are wrong... because i didn't measure the initial dose.... (just a new bottle after the tragedy) :fun2:

and maybe our scoop was more level then there measurement. who knows.....

i guess this means to just measure and not take the word of a package....

its the only major mistake i have made.... and i guess it wasn't a little mistake... :uzi:

I feel your pain and am very saddened.

As David said, there is always a brighter side. Perhaps you'll be able to make some changes to your system that you previously couldn't and you'll get to enjoy re-aquascaping and watching your corals grow!

Hang in there!

heres a current picture of the tank... (almost looks like it did when i set it up......)
heres a single cellphone picture (which is why it looks fuzzy)
photobucket-3302-1359059650081.jpg

here is a cellphone picture but in a panoramic mode so it takes a few small pictures and puts them together.
photobucket-5059-1359059648414.jpg

of all the stuff that was lost......
i have 2 LPS pieces that looked OK on Monday (the day of the big water change) so i took them over to a friends house on Tuesday.

here are pictures of them after just a few Hours in his tank. (he has a sweet 120 SPS/Reef)
(excuse the poor quality Cell pictures here as well)

here, you can see some white on the skeleton from stress and transport. most of all of that is gone now. (maybe i can get some better pictures this weekend)
photobucket-3336-1359059648129.jpg

here is a brain. it looks more fluffy in the picture, and that night when the lights went off, he fed it and said it fluffed up and looked normal.... (this piece looks amazing in person)
photobucket-4953-1359059649257.jpg

I cant say enough people in the community offering to help or when the tank recovers and is ready, they have offered frags or pieces that they had gotten from me. That way i can get a few things of color back in my bland blond looking tank...
