Time to replace Euro Reef skimmer?

I have an old Euro-Reef model CS-5-2 that I use on a 60 gal reef. I need to buy a replacement pump (Sedra 3500) which will cost arount $80. Has skimmer technology advanced to the point that I should consider buying a new skimmer rather than paying $80 for a new pump? If so, which models do you recommend? (In sump, limitations on footprint size.)

Thanks

I have the same exact skimmere on a 65gal tank and I just recently replaced the pump with another sedra 3500. I was also considering changing skimmers. But I decided to stick with my current skimmer after looking at options out there. For me it came down to a few things.

The quality of construction of my Euroreef is top notch and it works well.

Cost...the cost of replacing my pump is less than the cost of a new skimmer.

Finally, the technology for skimmers in this size/class range has not changed dramatically as far as I can tell. Unless, you are going for a higher end skimmer I an not familiar with any groundbreaking improvements.

I am interested in hearing from others on this. Good luck.

Did you get the standard Sedra 3500 or the one sold by Euro Reef's successor as modified specifically for Euro reef skimmers? The price difference is substantially higher for the ER mod. ($75 vs. $140) and don't want ton pay the higher cost unless there is good reason to

I have a euroreef and replaced the pump with a sicces psk600, works well and priced about the same $$$ as the sedra.

I was using a Euroreef CS-6-2,which worked great,I ran across a used SWC160 cone and decided to give it a try,and am happy I did for the following reasons:
1)Smaller footprint
2)Energy consumption
3)Noise level(way quieter)
4)Skims as good as my Euroreef
5)easier to clean the collection cup
...the build quality isn'tas good as ER,but it is a great skimmer

Are you sure you can't just replace the impeller on the old pump? Premium Aquatics has replacement parts for those pumps all day long. I just bought a Euro Reef 8-2 with a sicce pump plus the old sedra off of a guy here at RC and am looking forward to a good quality skimmer. In my opinion bubble plates are a trend. Take a look at L.A. Fishguys on youtube when they interviewed Jeff from Reef Dynamics. He has a lot of good info. He is the former owner of Euro Reef.
