Timer caught Fire!!

looks like the timer that had my led light plugged in caught fire.
or maybe it was the adapter attached to it. not sure. the rubber wheel in timer was what was continuing to burn.
not sure why this would have happened.

Brinks timer got at walmart.
been using this timer for awhile now and was using another of the same for my halides.

Does anyone have ideas here? thx

My thought as well. Looks like you got very lucky though. The damage looks very minimal, could have been a lot worse!

EDIT: As a side note, I always use timers made for external use on my tanks, they tend to be a bit more water resistant and better made

I have a fan over the sump that must be what's causing the moisture inside the stand??
that's the side of the stand that has the most condensation as the fan is over the sump on that side.
should probably replace other timers in there then.

That very well could be it. Over time I'm sure the humidity wasn't doing it any favors. I personally use 3 of the Brinks outdoor timers and have never had any issues, but they are also mounted on the side of my tanks.

wonder if the outdoor timer would hold up better to humidity..seems like it may.

i would for sure use a timer that has a ground on it.. it might have tossed a breaker instead of doing this...

I don't have any AC oulets in the stand with the Sump. All are seperated in the stand. The salt spray from the sump will corrode any exposed metal given time.

So related to this, should my power strips for my reefkeeper not be inside the stand since my sump is in there as well?

i don't have mine in the sump. I have seperate compartments for the modules. I do have fans for cooling water in the sump. One has already burnt up at about 4 weeks old. It shut down the 12 volt supply to all my fans. I think the cause was the skimmer was over full. It was just a few days after that it died. I have fans blowing into the compartments with the electroincs from outside the stand. i am hoping this little bit of positive pressure will keep air from entering the electronics area from the sump area.

When looking at others systems online and even the DA install videos it looks like they just have the PC4's inside the stand off to the side of the sump so i assumed this was ok. I am also unsure of how you would put them outside, i feel like the cordage for the modules and PC4's isnt long enough. I will have to take a look when i get home
