Tinkeri

I have a question for my rare fish friends...

It seems as though the Tinkeri butterfly is available on a pretty regular basis. So why is it still a $600 fish? I don't understand what drives prices for fish other than availability I guess so Im curious. Is the price steadily dropping and since Im kinda new to them I havent noticed? They are really attractive little guys and I would love to have one some day, but I dont think I could ever justify such a price tag.

It's mostly the depth many deeper water fish are harder to get and need to be decompressed as they come up other examples are bandit angels and blotchy anthia

Absolutely. Even shallow diving has its risks. And I know equipment is not cheap. Deep water collection is not for the faint of heart I am sure. Just didnt know much about them, but I keep seeing them on DD so the curiosity about cost was there.
Im sure they are worth it, and hopefully one day when I get my dream 240 gallon tank I will add one to it :) Especially if they are hardy little guys!

+1 and rebreather equipment isn't cheap and the risk involved at 400ft is not a joke.

Collecting on a closed circuit rebreather involves a much more complex process than doing something on open circuit scuba. And, of course the decompression process for both diver and fish is definitely not trivial.
