Time for an upgrade baby! My ole 29 bio-cube has hit the 3 year mark so I feel it's time for an upgrade. I wasn't going to do another tank unless I knew what I was doing and didn't nuke the 29. I would say, I did pretty good.
Last FTS of the Bio-Cube, Jan 2015
Ran across a really good deal on a new 60 cube and stand. I had the back drilled so I could do full siphon with the original reef ready setup. Cut one tube about 4" below the emergency drain.
Tank has been running for 26 days now and the cycle has finally ended. Plan to monitor a day or two to verify, then add a CuC and begin transferring over the nicer corals. That will make catching the fish in the 29 much easier! I'll monitor the tank, but right now the plan is to add a fish every week to 10 days. I have 5 fish in the 29. In time, I'll add a few more wrasse's to the bunch.
First up, our local club "directs" the first photo to contain the "lucky" beer shot.
I opted for a large skimmer, as I do tend to stock heavy. I'm fanatical about weekly water changes, but I also believe my past success is due to an over sized skimmer. Hello Vertex Omega 150, dang she's shiny.
Finding a suitable sump was a royal PITA, the stand is pretty small, the skimmer pretty big = hard to find. I went with a Next Reef NRS-24 Sump, must say, nice fit!
For a brief moment, I tried to talk the wife into letting me have the stand sitting backwards so I could see the sump at all times, being such a nice fit and all, well, we compromised, so the answer was "no!".
Day 1 - Cloudy, not much to see.
Day 7 - Things look much better. Diggin the scape, only took one and a half sticks of aqua-mend. (Sarcasm)
Hopefully moving corals and equipment over this weekend, keep ya posted.
