Tiny snails?

my lights are out and I just looked in my tank and noticed these things that look like tiny snails, some are round like a common snail found in a fresh water but they are not even the size of no. 2 pencil eraser and the other ones are very small and have the elongated pointed shell. Are they actually snails and are these harmful?

nudibranchs....sounds like anyway...some are harmless..some eat coral..some eat algae...any chance on a pic?

probably collonista(sp) snails

you can google them to see if thats it

doubt they are nudibranch from your description, but if they were the ones that are hitchhikers are pretty much all bad

Anything like that?

I'm pretty sure they are collonista snails and are harmless - I have them reproducing prolifically in my refugium also. It's a good sign I'm sure :D

collonistas and just an addition to your clean up crew

oops...i type too slow

I've always wondered that. At night when I look at the tank, I see hundreds of them. I often wonder where they all fit during the daytime that I dont see them.

They're white when they're smaller (at least the ones I have are) they develop the patterns as they grow.
