Tiny Tank

At least get the BIG bottle of booze!

That is what I was thinking. Or lay off the booze and increase the fund for a small tank;)

I'm going to laugh it up when you're drunk one night and accidentally take a swig from your fish tank instead of your medicine bottle ;)

You could also dremmel two 1/8" holes in it, epoxy in 1/8" nipples and use a aqualifter and a small pvc canister with nipples on either end to hold sponges and carbon, and you have a 3.5 gph homemade canister filter that you can mount remotely. It would be more than enough for a plant like red cabomba and a couple of fw cherry shrmip, they are only like 1/8"-1/4" and bright red, along with some pest snails to keep the glass clean. That way you bridge the gap of quality of life(all are critters that can be happily kept in small spaces), and still have a cheap, interesting tank. As a matter of fact, I think i'll make one too for my desk at work!

and if you want light you could use a cork with a hole drilled through it, lined with temp resistant epoxy glue and a christmas light. It might even help with a little heat too. If you have the dremmel or access to one you could do it for like 30 bucks.

i wouldnt debate you on that buddhakiss.

my thoughts were of a tank i saw many years ago that contained a tiny danio in a 4"x4"x4" acrylic cube with a little gravel and a small live plant. the cube was completely sealed except for a 1/8" diameter hole in the top that you used for feeding. to feed the fish you would dampen a wooden tooth pick and dip it into bag of finely crush flake food, then dip into the cube tank through the small hole. the fish belonged to the mother of one of my friends and i wouldnt doubt that it came from petco or the like? but that fish lived for a very long time in the tiny cube.

i like the ghost shrimp idea. you kinda have to have a small tank for those things or you never see them unless you have like a thousand of them!

Yeah, and I can point out millions of people living out a long life in a tiny prison cell. At least most of them can come out of it a couple times a day. Humane?...you decide.

I say fill it with saltwater and crank up that air pump. Then you will have a fine Italian protein skimmer. Look out Elos!! Looks like it would be pretty efficient.

come on now ryan i would never do that. unless i was drinking sake and wanted some sushi

If it were me working on this project as a freshwater set-up, I would do the following:

- dremel one hole in the back of the bottle just above the substrate level and epoxy in a nipple
- connect to this the air pump, throttled down to maybe one bubble per second (be sure to use a check valve on the air line)
- add one tall plastic plant, one small olive nerite snail, two Amano shrimp, and two galaxy rasboras

Once cycled, you can rely on regular water changes for nitrate control. With a tall water column like that, you should get sufficient dissolution of oxygen without using an airstone to break up the bubbles. However, I would not stopper the top as you'll still need an opportunity for gas exchange. You could use one of those stick-on LED puck lights on a shelf above the bottle for light.

Your biggest challenge here will likely be algae. The snail and shrimp will control most green algae but, with very little surface area for gas exchange, you will likely get black brush algae eventually.

This idea must of come up on the night you guys finished drinking that bottle and in a drunken state of mind you came up with this D U M B- A S S idea....((in a Napoleon Dynamite voice))"hey look guys, wouldn't it be cool if we made it into a fish tank and put tiny fish in it?We'd be soo cool!! A Stoli fish tank!!!"....hahahahaha!!! Lame.

A few friends of mine kept a betta fish in an empty handle of Pepe Lopez tequila for ~three years of college- weekly water changes and small feedings once a day.

I'm not sure what the expected life duration of a betta fish is, but I'd be willing to bet that three years is longer than the vast majority of those that are sold to random people in pet shops.

I'd def agree with skipping the 750 idea and upgrading to a handle tho :D

well ive been bussy the past week or so, have fish in the bottle and theyre doin fine and eating and all that suff, heres some pics from the first day

ill get some pics of them in the bottle when i got some more time

ya guppies are VERY and i mean VERY hardy, i once had guppies in a tub in my garage with no airstone, no filtration, no food, and my little cousin ****ed in it. All that for 3 months before they died

I'd also suggest white cloud mountain minnows, or endlers live bearers. Maybe a couple ember tetras if you figure out a way to heat it.

ok got some time to take some pics. due to the shape of the bottle and the fact that i have no tripod its hard to get the macro lense to focus at the proper distance. got some cool pics tho
