Nope! looks like a light issue or maby even Param's off. New bulbs different placement Params off? Need better pics or more info on params.

ALK burn usually results in brown tips first, then white, followed by algae invasion. What about bleaching? Change your lighting? Recently moved the coral to higher light output?

hmm thanks for the responses, my alk is at 9.6 or 3.43 i dose reguarly, actually raised the lighting awhile ago so its less intense its getting 260 par at the colony. and its only the outer lower edge is receding.

any other help? i keep all my levels on check thats why i dont think its alk. plus its only like 5 of the 100 tips and no other acros are doing it.
:(

I have a question off of this. I am relatively new to SPS and have not kept any except 2 montiporas which I recently got and 2 bird's nest. The bird's nest were doing great and growing for the longest time and then they started to develop that algae on their tips. Is there any explanation for this? Should the Alk. in an SPS tank not exceed a certain point?

There is really no such thing as "ALK burn". However, when tips recede it is usually an indication of high nutrients especially phosphates since that is where the growth would occur, but is being prevented.
