Tips for coaxing a RBTA out of hiding?

I was lucky enough to purchase a beautiful RBTA about 3 weeks ago from a local reefer. After acclimating the RBTA to my tank it promptly moved to the back of the tank and has stayed there ever since.

Last week I shaded it in hopes that it would move out for more light, as anywhere in the tank would be better then where it is currently located, but that didn't seem to have any effect at all.

Any pointers or am I just being too impatient? I should also note that I currently do not have a clown in my tank, could adding one possible help the situation?

Thanks for your time.

They will settle in a spot they like. Moving rock around and or re directing water flow could help force him out.

I agree that they will find a spot that they like and settle there. I have influenced their choice by directing more flow to an area that I didn't want them to settle in. I think that their need for light is the strongest pull as to where they want to be. I recently switched from 400w MH to LED and the anemones moved around for a few days but eventually they were right back where they were with the MH light.

Thanks for the pointers, my next step was to direct a power head at it to try and coax it out, looks like I will give that a shot tonight.

If you use a powerhead to make it move (( I personally would just let it be )) make sure that the intake of the powerhead is covered -- don't want the anemone being sucked into it.

Thank you, understood and noted.

It would actually be just redirecting the flow towards the anemone rather then sticking a powerhead right about it's noggin. ;)

I would rather just leave it be, but it is honestly in the worst part of the tank. Little light, not visible and therefore not conducive to feeding as well.

Even that could be enough for it to float free and be sucked in.

What lights do you have (( and what size tank )) and what lights was it under?

I have a standard RR, AGA 120g lit by PAR38 LEDs. The anemone came from a JBJ 24 which I believe was lit with PC bulbs.

That is a big difference -- are you still light acclimating it? I usually do that for 3 weeks, with that drastic of a difference.

Yes, it is in a fairly shaded area of the tank and I do not have any lights directed at it. I suppose I am just being impatient.

How long until I should be "concerned" due to lack of light / feedings?

Thanks for all the help, too!

Sure thing.

I, personally would put a couple of layers of window screening b/t the tank and the lights -- can be supported by egg crate -- and remove a layer every 5-7 days.

If the anemone hasn't moved in 5 days, I would consider moving the rock. Until than it will be fine.

MY GBTAs both went into hiding when I swapped out my 400 halides for 30w LEDs. They were on the bottom of my tank. They are back out now. It is the light change. Don't do anything, wait till it's ready to come out on it's own.
Right now it is trying to survive.

I don't feed mine and had them for over five years.
If it is not injured it should be fine.
