Tips for tanks pics with this camera

Hi All,

I have a cannon Rebel Xsi camera with a EFS 18-55 mm lens. I am having trouble getting it to take good pictures of the corals in my tank. I am not trying to take insane upclose macros but am having troubles with really washed out colors and everything being slightly out of focus.

I have read through most of the FAQ threads and have been trying to different manual settings out but still cant really get much to work. Any tips on settings or other tricks would be appreciated. I am using a tripod when I shoot.

Also, does anyone know if photoshop elements will handle RAW files?

Thanks,

Ira

First, yes Elements handles RAW files. That should take care washed out colors.

Next, what kind of tank? Turn off the pumps, let things settle for a few minutes, stay perpendicular to the glass. If the tank is a bow front, shoot through the sides.
