Very interesting. As a sportfisherman who frequents these artificial reef sites off NJ, I was not aware of this problem. I will have to disagree with some of this though, as I have GPS coordinates for several of these tire structures and they often hold black sea bass. So, perhaps the older units (bound with wire or whatever) are breaking apart, and I agree this is bad, but the newer units built with concrete I think are much better and DO hold marine life. Just thought I would give my experience.
