Tis the season to chck your heaters

I would suggest everyone check their heaters as the cooler weather is finally upon us... Yay! With a recent issue at the frag swap in which the A/C ran wide open all night and some vendors had no heaters in their tank, and came in that morning to 64* water, it reminds me to prompt everyone to think about their heater(s) in their own tanks. Some people run two smaller heaters instead of one big heater, as if one fails the other one still has a chance at working. If one sticks on, it might not cook your tank. If one dies, the other one may help out till you can remedy the situation. If you only have one big heater, you live and die by it.

Now is the time to make sure they are working and adequate before you experience a night yourself at 64*, or worse yet, a stuck on heater at *95. Just a thought as I head out into the cool morning breeze. :0)

Thats a good idea I hadn't heard of. I might have to consider this given the unsettling amount of people who have had tank crashed due to heater issues.

+1 on that.

"Now that's funny right there, I don't care who ya' are!"

Poor Jason can catch a break:
Last Year his heater sticks on;
This year the A/C blows cold all night long.

Too bad the Agricenter never heard of a "T-H-E-R-M-O-S-T-A-T")

(I literally had to select either ON or OFF. There was no other control!!!!)

Apologies to you and others who had Temperature issues.

Looks like we can control a lot of things, but we still can't control the "weather", however localized. :hmm5:

Wow

Wow

Wow that is one heck of an arrogant statement to make after a man whose hobby and partial lively hood is growing and selling his corals. I for one have a whole tank stocked with his stuff and you think it is funny that he returns home with losses that far exceed his profits is funny, WOW i will be sure to never support your events in the future Mako Shark II.

I am very certain that Mako was not making fun of anyone, especially someone that lost money or coral. He was simply laughing at a statement in the way it was worded "+1 on that".

I know Mako well enough to know that he would never laugh or take pleasure in anyone's misfortunes or losses.

As far as the reference to Jason, he simply said the guy can't catch a break, because he had issue two years, and in no way was laughing at him.....

Easy Mike. I know how easy it is to take offense to online text (especially without context or knowing the people involved), but you are very much overreacting. If you knew Marty you would understand how this is in NO way an arrogant statement. Also, I'm pretty sure he knows Jason very well and if there was anything he could do to help him...he would.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure Jason was posting in a light and humorous manner. Marty was only doing the same.

Mike,

If you are going to quote someone and "attack" the statement that was made as you did above, please post the ENTIRE QUOTE as listed below! It is sad when in our society today people are very quick to not take in its entirity the meaning in what people say but instead pull out the "snippets of text" that they choose to tell the story that they want to tell. Then use only a part of the story to attack others. I believe anyone that read Martys quote or knew marty at all know that there was nothing about his statement that was and I quote from you "arrogant".

Marty and this entire group hate very much that Jason and Tammy had the issues that they had here, they are good people that we all very much enjoy having at our functions and we very much appreciate there support. If you will take the time to read Martys quote in its entirity you would see that he was apologizing to them for the issues that they or anyone else had.

Please take the time to read the entire thing not just the snippet that you decided to "quote"

There would not have been a frag swap this year if it was not for Marty.

With the HOURS of work that that man put into hosting this event with very little outside help and going out of his way to try and please all of our vendors and the true empathy that he felt for the ones that had issues with the temperature in there tanks.

You my friend owe Marty Klauss "Mako Shark II an apology.

Wow. Really???? Geez....

...that's all I can say Mike. Wow.

To the rest of you that actually do KNOW me, THANK You!

To Jason & Tammy, again, my apologies. I had no idea the Agricenter AC would run wide open all bloody night without a Thermostat on their AC. (Who the heck does that anyways?) I think it's a darn shame that Onereef and I opened the Show (up at 7AM!) and walked into a refrigerator. The first thing we did was through open the large doors on both ends of the hall (AT HUGE risk of a breeze disturbing Everything, but fortunately, the wind was calm at dawn.)

Also, I feel the same way for "Zeeplumber" for that matter, who's Zoas didn't open up until after the show.

Well, to reiterate what Jay was trying to say is that it is that time of year to check your heaters. I recommend 2 heaters for redundancy. Heaters are notorious for going bad...thermostats making the heater be stuck in the ON position...frying your corals and fish. The optimal thing is to have those heaters on a controller and not rely on the built-in thermostat. Reef Keepers, Aquacontrollers, Aquatronicas, etc. all have a heater controller, but there are also temp controllers that do nothing but control temperature. Ranco and BlueLine heater controllers are good examples of those. No matter what your method, it is time to check and make sure yours are working properly.

Marty - you are so arrogant!

Woke up this morning around 5am to hear crackling coming from my tank. Thought it was a Kolaria gears but turned out seal on visi was bad and water was entering the heater. Looked like lightning inside the heater. Quickly unplugged it and removed from tank. Looks like I'll be getting a jager.
