Titanium Heater and Controller

Where is the best place to get a Titanium Heater and Controller? Local or Online. Any brands that anyone can recommend would be helpful as well. Is there any downside to a titanium over glass?

I've been looking for a similar item myself, so far I havn't found anything locally that i'd want to spend money on, At least nothing found that i can't find ALOT cheaper online. And I've yet to hear of any downside to titanium over glass, from what I understand the titanium heaters are far superiror. Any thoughts poeple?

The one issue I've read people complain about is not the heater, but the controller being poor quality and not turning the heater off.

The abosolute best heater applications in my opinion is some type of redunency. I have a medusa controller with a won brothers controller and just a finnex heating tube plugged into it. The reason I chose this option is because the medusa physically cuts the power to the entire heater controller inthe event of a failure. The set points of my medusa and the heater controller are 3 degress apart, so if the heater controller fails and raises the temp 3 degress from the shut off point. The medusa's relay then cuts power to the entire heating assembly. I had a Pro Heat on one of my past tanks, and thought the controller was adequate but it failed and caused a meltdown. So i use two types of contollers.

Just a piece of mind for me,

Do I need that 300 watt element for only a 75 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump? Or could I go with something smaller?

I have read good things about the finnex titanium heaters here on RC.

...I have a 300w on my 90 with 20 gal sump, it seems to work fine. Keeps the temp stable.

I think that is the smallest heater finnex makes. Being 300w it won't take as long to bring the temp to where you want it. Less run time = longer life.

I have the same tank w/20g sump. That's the unit I just ordered.
