Titanium

I need to replace bolt in a pump. My question is is it safe to use Grade 5 Titanium instead of Grade 2.

The Grade 5 has:

4% vanadium
6% aluminium
90% titanium

The Grade 2 has:

99% titanium

I guess the question is will the small amount of aluminium in a 420 gallon FOWLR tank be a risk. As far as the vanadium I have never heard of any issues with that but worth asking.

Thanks
Marc

It is safe to use that Titanium in seawater applications as the oxide layer will prevent most if not all corrosion/selective dealloying effects.

Any aluminum input in the tank would likely be more from the salt mix or foods than the small alloying amount.

I agree that either alloy should be fine. The grade 2 might be a bit safer in theory, but either should be fine.
