TLF - Coral Affix

Anybody used this stuff before? I picked some up at TRS. It's probably the easiest method I have used for mounting coral, although you need quite a bit of it for large colonies. I can't seem to get the water weld + superglue method to work for me, so this was a great alternative. The only downside to the product is the skimmer will go absolutely crazy for days after using it, which I hear is a side effect of the epoxy as well. I managed to get a 4" SPS colony mounted at a pretty steep angle in about 5 minutes time. So far, I'm very impressed with the stuff.

whatever brand name you use

whatever brand name you use

cyanoacrylate GEL works better when used in conjunction with epoxy.

Looks like "Coral Affix" is simply an (expensive) gel cyanoacrylate.........................

roll a big blob of epoxy, smear a bit of gel on opposite sides and stick the coral to whatever ;)

I was under the impression that you used the epoxy to create two flat surfaces so the gel would adhere to both the rock and the coral. I guess I was doing it wrong.

The epoxy often doesn't stick well to the rock or coral. I fix corals to the rock in the tank with cyanoacrylate gel and epoxy, After putting some gel on the rock side of the kneaded epoxy, I jam it into the rock , pressing it into the irregular surface. Then I'll poke a depression into the topside of the blob of the epoxy and place the frag or plug with more gel on it into the depression.
For mounting frags to plugs or rocks outside the tank , just the gel is often sufficient. When using just the gel ,dipping it in saltwater for 30 seconds or so after applying it to the plug, accelerates the drying and thickens it enough to hold a frag up while it hardens.
