TN Reefers a Great group of people.

Pretty fish, I sure hope he makes it. and real sorry to hear of your tank. That sure is some bad luck there, but also glad the manufacture is standing behind the tank. Good Luck.

I would have to say get a new tank because if you do not and something happens they may not stand behind it. I know its a pain but better safe then sorry. If it was a used tank then yes I would build a stand and reinforce it with something.

That's what we thought would be better. I was just trying to avoid all the pain of switching everything out and back in again. Maybe my poor powder blue will be better by then. It's going to take the tank about 2-3 weeks to get here.

At least it will give me a chance to set up the rocks without the water being already in there and maybe I can put them together (glue maybe- the drilling/peg things sound a bit beyond my capabilities and I'm not sure that DH would go for it.....

Good think I didn't have everything where I want it and beautiful....

hey susan, funny to hear someone else talking about metronidazole fodd soaks! Ive done it for years. any time I introduce a new tang I feed brine or mysis soaked in metronidazole for about a week. or If I see any ick spots I start feeding it also. Ive never lost a fish to ick since. and they always heal. now I havent dealt with the symptoms your having but if it continues to get worse you may want to try it. I have some if you cant find it locally. also dont go buy it and dose your tank with it. it isnt reef safe. but in small quantities like a food soak it wont hurt anything.

as for the tank, I definalty wouldnt take any chances. if it is an allglass or other mass produced tank it isnt going to have thick enough glass to withstand the brace being broken. you could build a brace but I wouldnt risk it. let us know when it comes in and we will help you get it all switched over. it really wont be that bad. like you said it is a new setup anyway. so no extra stress or filth to deal with!

I would really appreciate the help swapping tanks!!! And it is one of the mass produced tanks, so I need to replace it. Donnie told me it was a risk setting it up with the broken brace, but we epoxied it and thought maybe it wasn't that important (it seems rather flimsy). Oh well.

The powder blue is doing much better and the big hole is now almost healed. I really thought he was a goner.

On the sad front though, my big purple tang died the other day. He got pretty beat up while moving all the rocks to the new tank (no where to hide and the yellow picked on him quite a bit). He never ate well in the new tank and his fins were healing, but he died anyway. I had him for about 9 years. Very sad.

Anyway, I'm going to get rid of the whopper yellow tang and try to introduce a smaller purple (the powder blue was expensive, I can't imagine what a big purple tang would cost) with a smaller yellow. You don't think that the Naso and Powder would beat up on them too much do you? Different shape rule? The Naso and Powder are pretty peacefull, I just don't want to put a $150 purple in the tank and have it killed....

if you have a petco close to you, they have purple tangs for $79.99 I picked up a Kole Yellow Eye Tang from a local petco for $23.99 + tax and it has been really good.

I always heard the horror stories about petco. But my brother picked up a pair of ocellaris about 2 1/2 years ago and they have been fine. My mom wanted to go to Michaels (next door to Petco on the 'Boro), so I said I'll go and check out the $29 corn snakes they was advertising in the paper. No corn snakes when I got there but I seen the tang and it looked good so I took it home.

not that you cant find good deals or good fish there sometimes, but for the most part you wont find healthy fish there. maybe its just our local one. but online I have heard nothing good either, so I just dont go, but if you have a quarantine tank I guess it wouldnt hurt to try one and see how it did.

the petco in murfreesboro is pretty good...i take my weekly trip there on my way home from class...and ive noticed thats always when they do their water change.....so the upkeep is pretty good there....i cant say the same for the one in bellevue, hermitage, and hendersonville though

and the fish that i gotten from them has been great....i couldnt keep a neon goby to save my life when i bought one from AC and ebay......but the 2 that i got from petco are happy and eating

OK, Bryan (or any of you guys), I need some information of treatment of ick. My big powder blue now has it and it looks like it might have been from the carpenter's fairy flasher wrasse. They both are covered.

Where do I get the metronidazole (do you have any to spare?) and somebody mentioned a UV filter thing (Kierl did). What is it and what kind do I need to get?

I've got a ton of corals in the tank, and a refugium, so just dose the food?

Do you have a hospital tank or anything you can use as a hospital tank? That may be your best bet. Perhaps even a rubbermaid bin would work.

Too late. Came home today and the powder blue and the carpenter flasher wrasse were both dead. I hate that. The powder blue survives a big hole in his side and then dies of ick. I guess he wasn't healthy enough to fight it off. Ugh.....

I'm depressed. Poor fish. He was beautiful.

OK, I'm less depressed now. I lost the big powder blue and a carpenter's wrass and a whopper of a yellow stripe maroon clown. The big Naso's eyes are clowdy, but he's still eating and I'm putting in a lot of green for him to much on. He's off his feed, but still getting some down, so I hope he makes it. The big yellow tang isn't eating well, but has clear eyes. The coral Beauty angel is looking ok (I was a little worried about it) and everything else looks fine.

I'm doing the big tank swap this weekend. Wish me luck. when is the next meeting for you all on a weekend? I'd like to come if I can.... Still loving all my stuff that you all gave me and the fabulous coral rock (what were those called?).
