To catch a damsel???

I've got this blue damsel, that while it is pretty and I have never seen another one like it, it has to go.
Everybody that see's my tank always asks what kind of fish it is, he really is a good looking fish....but he digs in the sand like there's no tomorrow. My tank is always cloudy and I can't take it any more.
Does any one have a good fish trap that I can borrow? Or if someone knows a good way to catch this thing?
When I do catch it, is there anyone who wants it? I will give it to you for free, but will not turn down a small frag :)

Thanks in advance for any and all help on this.

Try making a trap out of a clear plastic bottle. Cut the top 1/5th or so off, invert it and then glue/silicone it to the top. Put some really tasty food (I used mysis) inside the bottle and wait for the little turd to build enough courage to swim into the bottle and then scoop it out.

I used a trap like this to catch a pseudochromis and it only took about 1/2 hour for me to catch it...

look in the member list for "woodstock" her name is DONI and she hooked me up w/ a trap to rid my tank of a damsel about a year ago.

i bought a little hook at the tackle shop, made a little pole out of a stick, threw a little mysid shrimp on there and wham! of course the damsel was the first to hit it. you have to be quick because they are smart and wont go after it the second time. no damage to the fish other than a sore lip and he is still cruising in another tank today!

Reef'in Colorado, I have heard/read about that metod, but obviously never tried it. Maybe I will give it a shot, I suppose I will catch every other fish also...

G.SMITHII, I searched woodstock, but her last post wa sOct of 06, so she probably isn't around any more. Do you still have that trap? Would you be willing to borrow it out?

good idea zombie, but I will probably try a trap first, although that would be kinda fun.

When I catch this bugger does anyone want it?

Thanks

It is just a small average size(i guess) damsel. Maybe 1 1/2".

Man that would be awesome!!

Thanks

My favorite way to catch fish in my reefs is to do some "midnight fishing".

1st find out where your fish sleeps, most of us know where all our fish sleep already so this wont be a problem.
Next wait till your lights heve been out for a couple hours (if youve got the moonlights turn them off too). and you know the fish is actually sleeping.
Then turn on all your lights and and scoop your fish. The fish will be temporarily blinded and disoriented so this should be pretty easy. Then you can turn the lights back off and let the fish go back to sleep.

Works for me everytime.

OK, here it is:

I left it dirty so you could see the acrylic better.
There's a hole on the door for a fishing line closure mechanism.

Some potential modifications:

1. An apparatus to hang it on the side of the tank. (easy)
2. More holes to make it, I don't know, different. (easy)
3. A tray so the food doesn't slide around. (easy)
4. Mini TV and fridge to make it more enticing for the victim. (more difficlut)

I've never seen one of these live, so let me know...

Wow that thing is really cool. Did you just make that? Could I borrow it?

If I remember correctly you live pretty far north, right?

Yeah, I just whipped it up. Actually, I'd like to check out your system and buy a frag, if possible, so I could bring it by.

Geez, keep that up and we'll have to list you as "doubtful" for tomorrow.

OH WAIT! No, "gametime decision."

OH WAIT! No, "limited duty."

OH WAIT! No, ...:wavehand:

Just go to a fly fishing shop, buy a size 24-28 hook pack, get some of the smallest diameter tippet 10x line, (not fluoro.... it floats too much), put a piece of frozen on and your problem is no longer. Don't bother buying a fish trap.

I guess the hesitation I have with this method is that I have 10 other fish in the tank. I don't want to hook a different fish.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone.

goslugsgo is hooking me up with a fish trap, so hopefully this litte guy will be out tomorrow.

No one wants him?

Thanks

I might want him, but I need to know what kind of fish he is exactly. Damsels normally don't bury themselves in the sand, so I don't know what I would be getting myself into :) Could he possibly be a type of wrasse or goby? What's the coloration like?

my fiji blue devil spit sand all over everything too. he had to go. of course, that was in my 20g. he is in a 120 now and i dont think he is an issue in that tank.

I'm pretty sure its a damsel.

Not the best pics but it will give you an idea.

Bottom left corner of the pic the little blue guy.

Zombie that name sounds familiar, did it look like this one?

Thanks and let me know if anyone wants it. When I catch it I will throw it in the sump for a little bit but I don't want it in there for to long.

Thanks
