To hard plumb or not.....

How do you have your current plumbing on your tank/sump.

Flexible hose
PVC
or Flexible PVC (spa Hose)

What is the quietest option?

I say use PVC, but make sure to use unions so you can take it apart as needed :)

I currently use both PVC and the Flex PVC

Flex is nice. Easy for down the road upkeep. don't even have to unhook the pump when cleaning, just move it out of the way. I dont think you would notice enough of a sound dif. to say so. All that being said, theres nothing that looks better than nice bright white, well plumbed PVC.

Hard-piped on both return and drain here. I have heard though that using flex PVC on your return is a better choice, having something to do with flow I guess.

I just set up a sump on my 150G and plumbed everything with hard PVC (1"). I used a few unions in places where I would potentially want/need to disassemble and valves to control flow to sump and refugium and to throttle back the return pump which is waaaayyyy oversized. It is not hard to do and it looks very good.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Over the past few days I have been learning tons about fluid dynamicas  I have a 1" drain which when it enters my sump was very volital and noisy. Soooo as it was suggested to me I tried to make my drain size go from 1" up to 1.5" to try to help disperse the water and relieve the water pressure. This IMO made it a bit worse cause the larger diameter pvc seemed to amplify the noise and make the bubbles worse.

Sooo today I switched my plumbing to the other suggested method of quieting my drain which was to add a "T" at the end of the 1" PVC and add a couple more outlets for the water. This was the ticket....it pretty dang quiet now.

Im still tweaking it a bit but the tank is now pretty quiet....of course My goal is to make it as quiet as possible :D
