I have never seen him touch any corals and i have had him for almost a year.Silly question...does the longnose bother your corals? They can eat sps...
Thanks. I do use a GHL 4 head doser for my alk cal and mag. I use salifert test kits for ALK>CAL>MAG>NITRATE. I use a hanna tester for my PHOSPHATE. I just started detecting a little hint of nitrate like a week ago. here i re took some pics i do have a nikon slr but i suck at taking pics.
Thanks myka I will definitely look into a metal absorber. One thing I will check is stray voltage in the tank. Also why the alk jumped soSo why is the alkalinity fluctuating so much?I assumed you were adding by hand.
You might have a sniff of PO4 yet, the ULR phosphorus checker would tell you that. It reads in ppb.
Is there any chance of toxin introduced? Maybe a run of a metal adsorber like Cuprisorb or PolyFilter. That's a shot in the dark though.
I'm not sure what's going on, but your corals are not starving. This is a starving coral:![]()
I don't know either. If PO4 is really 0 everything would be dead. You might want to give Reef Roids a try. It says right on the package it doesn't add Phosphate, which makes it a good food for adding Phosphate.I really do like Reef Roids and acros seem to like it as well.
Is that a Reef Octopus skimmer with a neck extender on it?
Also would no po4 levels cause tips to start whitening. I checked my par like a week ago and I was getting 200 at lower level corals and 250-300 at upper level corals.
If the tank is nutrient poor then you can get tip burn at higher Alk levels, maybe 8.5+ not really sure. White tips might also be growth.
I added the neck extender to stop the random overflows and it worked.
I would dose either a pinch of roids or reef chili every day OR heavier every 3 days. Treat it like dosing seems to work best. Be consistent and then adjust based on how the tank and corals are doing. (I'm really talking to myself here, I'm horribly inconsistent).
Thanks for the help man really appreciate it.im going to try to dose amino acids soon. Also looking more into the past about 3 months ago I started taking out my sand bed. Also like a week ago I had to catch a wrasse and the sand bed was stirred up fairly well. My sand bed I had in the the tank was 1-3 inchs in different places as flow moved the sand. I do not know if that could've contributed to the problem. I also can not remember if my SPS went downhill afterwards.
Also would you recommend feeding cyclops
Ok well did some more tests today... I thought maybe I have chloramines in the water...tested the water and cholormines are not present. Also I checked for stray voltage in tank...I get 1-2 volts in tank. Don't know if that would cause this problem or not
No. Everyone will measure some voltage.
I'm not trying to maintain a ulns... What do you suggest I do. How would you suggest me to raise nitrates and phosphates?Phosphates are to low. Bring up to 0.02-.03ppm nitrates 5 or so if your having trouble keeping sps trying to maintain a ulns system isnt going to be a successful venture
