To plywood or not to plywood?

I build a lot of stands here locally and have been for many years now, all my stands have a ply bottom, if you seal them they should not warp, in fact I actually seal the edges w/ siliconized caulking and they contain minor spills.

Spot on!

I have the wood at the base of my tank caulked, primed and painted with something water resistant. The basin formed catches a few gallons from doing stupid things like forgetting the ro/di to the top off container. Easy to dry, wood untouched after.

At my lfs they use a thin foam sheet... I don't know exactly how they do it but they use it to prevent odd pressures on the floor and a cushion to prevent problems .. I would try to find to find some sort of cushion to prevent problems before u have a full running systems best of luck!

Also Ima marine mechanic they sell harden foam boat d about 3/4" thick for marine use that would probably work for what your trying to accomplish .. You could even lay a single layer of epoxy or fiberglass to seal the board .

I have those tiles in my kitchen and they crack really easily. Ours broke in front of the door just from being stepped on. I think sometimes, especially depending on how well they are installed and if they are cheap, there can be a gap underneath so you just have to push the right way and they snap because they span such a big area compared to smaller tiles. It would be sooo annoying if it cracked after you got the water in from the added weight

Are you going to close in the stand, or will anything you put under be visible?
I wish I had put something on the tiles under and about 2feet out all the way around. The saltwater is causing traverine to become pitted and chip and its only been few months. We took two doors and sealed then to protect under the tank but big issue is saltwater dripping around the tank due to maintenance. Salt precipates at rim and when wiping off lands on floor and hard to see. Looking for cool non slip mats to put around this tank before it destroys all the travertine around the tank. -S
