To those interested in my old light

I did. It's in buyer feedback. The name is da1jewfish. The guy still insists that somehow in the process he was the wronged party. Oh well. I know the facts and what I wrote was the honest truth. I even brought the light to my LFS guy to look at so he could vouch if necessary. Some people are just dishonest and see no problem with the way they do things. Problem is some sap like me comes along and gets Ye Old Shaft.
I have this overwhelming urge to smack myself in the forehead. STUPID STUPID STUPID

i have not been following every sentence, but why didnt you just send it back to him and have him refund you in full?

seems simple enough.....

$75 for shipping a 72" light fixture!

This guy has offered to refund the $100 for the light fixture, but not the money that was paid for shipping. This guy claims that the shipping company opened his package, took out the lights, cut out the ballasts, repackaged the fixture, and delivered it!

Uh, OK. Yeah right, like someone opened up that package and said, "Awesome, power compact lighting ballasts! Score!"

Then I would have been out even more money. From the very first pm I sent him about the light, I knew this would not turn out good. I told him I would return it but that was met with a NO real quick. I would have to pay return shipping and there I would sit, out $150 instead of just $75. This guy knew exactly what he was doing the entire time. When he said that the packing company sabotaged his light I didn't know whether to bust out laughing or shake my head in sympathy. I just know that paypal is NO HELP whatsoever in a case like this so be forewarned. If you buy anything you can't take a hit for money wise, use a credit card. That was my mistake. I could have done a charge back. I guess in a weird way I should thank him. I now know I can get suckered on here from a jerk, that being patient and polite gets you no where with said jerk and that if I buy anything over $20 by gawd it's going on the ol' visa.

I know, I know. Somebody go ahead and smack me one. Save me from doing it repeatedly....lol

yeah, no offense at all.......but i think you kinda walked into this one.

i would never pay $75 to ship something that was already in an "abused" condition (re: broken leg) and no light bulbs.

only way i would put up $75 to ship something if it was from a legit company, and the product was several hundred bucks.

if you wanted to save some money on a huge lighting set up like that, you should have just looked out for a retro fit set up, and put it together from little parts.

oh well.....live and learn ya know?

btw....did they weigh the box when the guy took it in to the store? (thats what they do with FedEx and UPS...they weight it right in front of you and then write it down on the shipping tag).

you could go and weight the package that you got (box and everything), and determine if its the same weight as what they recorded. if there is a HUGE discrepency (i.e. no ballasts) then i think you'd have a pretty good case to call up the better business bureau and file a fraud report on the shipping company.

just an idea...

Sorry about your luck my friend ... I know Ade just ordered a pretty nice fixture not long ago for a decent price ..maybe he has a link?

This whole thing was my stupidity alone. The guy had no negative feedback and seemed, through pm's and emails, to really be a nice person. It was one of those "too good to be true" deals and it was. My husband tells me I have a horrible habit of being naive and trusting when someone seems nice and honest. This isn't my first rip off rodeo but it will be the last.

I'm pretty well done with everything concerning the light. There is no sense in beating a dead horse. I told my story and he told his.
The one thing I did get out of this whole mess was the fact that this jerk has been exposed as a thief and an utter moron while trying to defend himself. It's not much but it is better than nothing. :-)

I just wonder how much the person at the pack n ship wants for the ballasts he stole before he packed them up...lol

Oh, and about putting lights together from kits. I may excel in a lot of things in life but trying to wire something together and it not burn the house down isn't one of them..lol

well, i'm sure a local member would be glad to lend a hand in putting something together if you asked!

there are allot of helpful reefers around here that are good for stuff like that. ;)

I take back what I said about not pursuing this further. I have spoken with a rep from UPS and she said that the whole story about sabotage sounded like trash to her. She gave me the number to the packing store he used and I am calling them tomorrow. She also wants me to follow up with them afterward. This guy bit off a little more than he can chew.

ALL he had to do was give me back my money and I would have went away. Now it's blowing up in his face and I am sure not a soul on here will ever deal with him again.
