To Tunze or not to Tunze?

That is the ? I am asking. Since all of the garbage that is getting thrown onto the forums lately, I thaught maybe we can have some good discussion about who has Tunze and how they would use them. Also is the 6200 worth the extra $$.

For those of you that have not been to my house to see the new tank here is a pic of it. This is a rough drawing so don't crack on me too hard.

also here is a link to the post that Tunze rep said I should put in.

I know this is not dramatic but any ideas are appreciated.:bum:

what that guy reccommended to use is a whole lot of current. Thats like 17,000 gph flow. Are you going to be able to keep the water from creating waves and going over the top of the tank? That would be a good question I would think with all that flow. If I remember correctly about your tank, that would be like turning your tank over 8.5 times an hour.

I wanna be there when you start it all up, and video tape it, if you go that route, lol.

Wayne, you are going to have some cool options because of the way you are doing the glass panel. Basically, you should be able to hide most anything in the corners next to the glass panels. I have 6100s and 6000s on a 7095 multi-controller (they are set up as just 6000s now) and really like the flow.

A few observations/comments:
1) The total tank turnover in flow is not all that important, IMO, for a tank your size. You are going to want to get good turnover in the SPS side, moderate in the LPS side, and less on the softy side.
2) I think Roger's recommendation is pretty good, but I would possibly use 2x6100 on the LPS side instead.
3) I think I'd put the 6200s in the left side corners -- offset off the left side over several inches, and pointed toward each other, or slightly angled toward the back. I'd set the height depending on how high the sides are and how high up you'll have your rock.
4) Similarly, I'd put 6100s in the corners pointing toward each other on the LPS side, and the same for the softy side.
5) Pay attention to substrate and rock placement -- the high gph the tunzes put out can kick up some sand.
6) You could technically do this on a single multicontroller -- and I would say that would be fine for everything except the high/low pulse settings. My guess is you will be better off with the ability to individually adjust the flow pattern (pulse length, % peak, % baseline) for each zone, so getting 3 7095s would do the trick.
7) Tunze is coming out with replacements for the 6100 and the 6000 soon. The main difference is that they are eliminating the controller box, and changing the transformer. This gives you slightly fewer options than with the current 6000 and 6100. Basically, the current setup allows you to set up a pair of 6000s or 6100s and to inexpensively switch the pump by simply changing out the transformer. In other words, the current 6000 and 6100 are exactly the same except one uses a 12V transformer, and the other uses a 20V transformer.

You've got some thinking to do, and seeing some in action may help. If you want to come by and see my Tunzes sometime, you are welcome.

Oh, and for your tank, I imagine the 6200 is worth the extra $. You've got quite a bit of distance for flow to travel.

Wayne, all I have to say is I'm jealous, and you're crazy. :)

Your monster of a tank would barely fit on my sad excuse of a patio out back, let alone in my townhouse....one day... A girl can dream, right?

I love my tunze!!! THey are awsome, and last forever. Every little part that could possible wear can be replaced over time very inexpensivily. I would say go for it!!!!

I could not tell what your total tank volume is in gallons. Mine is 75 and I have about 4000 GPH of flow.

Just my 2cents..but I would think that the extra for the 6200 would be worth it. With the size of your tank you are going to need a lot of flow. Might as well go for the best the first time around.

when i heard about the tank awhile back, I just thought you was doin' a 12ft long tank. Didnt realize it was gonna have 2 12ft sections and a 11ft section. Thats gonna be cool. Cant wait to see that. And this is the tank you are getting sharks for? Will it still be a reef or fish only?

Steve

Thanks for all the input thee tank will be reef and I was going to put aggressive fish in the 240 but that may change and we might put aggressive in the 180 and have the 90 for a QT tank. The wife is the one who likes angles and aggressive fish and the 180 will likely be in the bedroom so I would like to keep her happy in the bedroom don't U think.

Sand will not be a large probablem as there will not be many beach front propoerty in this tank I will have to explain later in detail when I figure it out. By the way the depth of the total tank is around 42" but the glass will be less then 30" I have around 6" on top for waves and 6" on bottom to hide plumbing under rubble rock.

Like I had said before we may have to have a planning sesson with Beer, crown, cokes and some pizza with a big easle to draw pict on.

Wooglin you better be right as I just took the plunge so anyone want to pay my CC bill this mth? I just ordered 4 6100's 2 6200's a 95 controller and 2 Tunze wave boxes. That with 3 hammerhead pumps for return pumps should be my flow. Or do you think I should buy some MJ?

Thats quite a CC bill. You could have saved some dough and gone with 10 non controlled MJ1200's with the mod!!! ;-) Just kidding of course...

Cool! Make sure you get some Y adapters if you only got one 7095 controller. There are only enough outlets on the box to control 4 powerheads. In addition. you'll need the extra length from the cables to get the powerheads where you want them. Also, how are you going to mount them? The mounts that come with them kind of stink. I use magnet mounts for mine.

Good googity. I wouldn't even be allowed to sleep in the garage... I think you'll like them. My corals showed an instant response. I want another for the opposite end of the tank:).

Thanks I was able to show joy the cost of running 6 closed loops would cost about the same in the end. I did get one y adapter and I am going to need some thaught on how to mount them.
