toadstool leather dying?

about 3 weeks ago i purchased a toadstool leather from my lfs. My setup is fairly new at about 6 months old. It was doing great until this morning when I noticed that it had developed white spots and had closed up. The leather has been placed on the bottom of the tank away from the other corals with minimal/moderate flow. It was doing great till today. It's head is about 5-6 inches in diameter. Is this normal for toadstools and should I try to move it before things get worse? All of my water parameters (cal, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, Kh, ph, salinity) are within normal limits as I test weekly. I perform biweekly water changes.

72 gallon bowfront
20 gallon refuge
350 watts worth of compact t-5's (actinic/daylights)
2 powerheads (600 gph each)
frogspawn, green star polyps, zoas, shrooms
hippo tang, clown, goby, 2 cleaner shrimp, coral banded shrimp,

Toadstools will close up for any length of time. Usually only a couple days but sometimes up to months!
Eventually its will look shiny (like there is a layer of transparent film over it) and it should shed this layer off. When I see the layer of film on mine, sometimes I will LIGHTLY try to blow some of it off with a turkey baster. It should come off naturally though (im not very patient). As for the white spots, I have seen them on mine but they usually go away when it "sheds". Im not sure what they are

This is what mine looked like a week ago:

The other toadstools i have looked like this (ignore those ugle zoas, and look to the right):

They do this from time to time, mine does it about once every 2 months or so. Today its back to 100%! Just give it a few days or even a few weeks.

I've had the same expirience with mine. Like bubbles said they close up sometimes for a while. The longest mine has closed up is for 3 weeks. I did notice when I moved it to a moderate to high flow area the close up time or shedding time only takes about a day.

thanks for putting my mind at ease. I think I'll also try giving it some help with a turkey baster. I appreciate your response

Yeah my old one would actually shed skin if it got irritated. The ones I have now haven't shed skin but will close if detrius or something else lands on it.

Funny side note my starry blenny will sleep in the sucker and it doesn't mind him at all.
