I just got a toadstool today. I drip acclimated it and everything..All the polyups are still in and looks like of droopy. How long will it take to open up and look good. Another ? i have is what is good placement i have it towards the bottom on the rock of my 26g bow. I run PCs over my tank. Thanks

Not sure about placement .. I'm still finding out if mine likes it where it is but I've found when disturbed it can take hours for the polyps to come out- longer when i first acclimated it and put it into the tank...

Sleep on it and hopefully it'll have opened up for you in the morning :)

Mine took almost a week for the polyps to come out when I first got it. It sometimes will go a day or two retracted then open up and be fine.

place higer in open current an strong light. it takes time to adjust 1-2 week. goods current will keep exess slime off coral

I just got a large toadstool yesterday about ten inches when all opened up. It has no ployp extensions and is a little shrivled up.

I also am wondering where a good placement is, I have mine about a 1/3 of the way from the top of the tank. I have dual 250W DE MH, I have mine placed under one of the overflows, and directly under a maxi 1200, so hopefully the constant water movement will keep the slime off.

Any advice on these would be appreciated by me as well!!!!

Toadstool leathers prefer strong current and light. This will generaly cause them to really expand. In the first few days off acclimation to a new tank, the stronger currents are absolutely neccesary. Same w/ zoas IMO.

mine loves the high light and med flow.......... and all leathers take their sweet time getting used to a tank .....be patient

After doing a waterchange my new one has decided to go back in for about 2 days.. Maybe i'll try aiming the powerhead at him and see if he likes it anybetter.. i put a little phyto stuff just to see if it would entice it out. no luck yet.

When I did that one of my nassarious snails came out and cralwled allllll the way up my rock just to slime my toadstool and go back down. Yep, tomorrow when i go downstairs if he isn't out yet i'll definitely point it at him

light must b srtong and current must be srtong as well. place higer up in open water that it can get the full force of the current. warning signs = black spots (dying areas).

My toadstool got mad at some point (after I had it for nearly a year and it had been happy in the same spot) and shrank up and looked like it was dying. I wanted to remove it from my tank after it looked this way for over a week (due to the bad nutrients that it would add to the water), so I tried to pry it off the rock. It was tough to do and I moved my whole rock pile in the process, even though it was on the bottom rock. I finally got the main part to let go and put it in a frag basket just to make sure it was dead (I figured, if it wasn't already, I just did it in by abusing it!). Don't you know, it popped right open the next day! I superglued it onto a small rock and placed it in a new spot and it looks great now. Don't give up on yours. If you can move it, try a new spot...there may be something where it is now that it doesn't like.

Good luck!
