Look really great to hold top off water at the end of a 20 long tank in a tight sump. But...
they are made of PET (recycle code 1), and it has very poor compatibility with calcium hydroxide. So if you top off with kalkwasswer, it fails as one did on me this morning. Fortunately it was wedged in tight enough that the crack couldn't open fully and there was a small leak to alert me. Until, of course, I pulled it out.
So my advice is to not use them :)

Not sure how you made the connection, but a great bit of knowledge to file away.

I had the same thing happen to me a few times until I realized it wasn't a design flaw. Mine came from the container store and would always break at the seal.
