Tomato Clownfish

I love tomato clowns...they're one of my favorites. Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience because I'm limited to a small tank due to the restrictions in my building, but I love their look and I like the personality I see from them in the stores and other reefers tanks.

From what I understand they're one of the more aggressive clowns and need a fairly big tank.

Well, like most clowns they're pretty hardy. I've had a pair for over a year and the only aggression is towards eachother (male/female dominance).

I had a pair of them a little while back ~12 months ago. I traded them back to the LFS for a clarkii pair.

They were nice, but everytime I went to put my hand in the tank, the female would sneek up on me and nip, which usually startled me every time, and caused some water to splash :)

They are pretty fish. My female spends a lot of her time in the BTA. She won't let the male anywhere near it. She occasionally chases him, but otherwise all is good. I haven't had any issue, with the tomatos and other fish. I did find it strange that she'll let the Tang come very close to the BTA, but that's it.

my tomato clown trys to eat me everytime i look over the tank there crazzy teritorial if you ask me. its almost anoying hahah

i love my pair. its funny to watch the male run right into the BTA when the female leaves it then the female gets mad and chases him out

yes

1) highly territorial
2) will attack the hand that feeds it, then expect the hand to feed it
3) will demand respect from all other fish if they have an anemone
4) will spawn every 14 to 18 days if feed well, given good environment, and have an anemone (they like BTAs a lot) and are noticably happier when they have an anemone to cuddle with
5) become even more aggressive when protecting eggs and an anemone
6) female will keep the hubby in line, allows him to eat, tolerates his staying home in the anemone, but will punish him from time to time just to make sure he remembers who is in charge
7) in turn the male will do his best to convince his wify that he is watching over the eggs. He will fan their eggs well, but will often wait for the female to swim near the eggs and then fan them furiously until she leaves. He lives in awe and fear of his matriarch.

I love my tomatoes and would never part with them. It was so funny and amazing to see how she treated him during the pairing process. How she beat on him, and he would dance like Michael Jackson in order not to be pummled; and in then end, she turned him into "A MADE MAN".

If you have never created your own pair of mated clowns (particularly tomatoe clowns), you don't know what you are missing. You need to make a tank just for them and then tape it, it is so wicked to watch.

Good luck, Kevin
