My last batch of fry decided to hatch a day early so i lost all of them cause i wasnt expecting them :( I have more eggs that were laid on the 27th :)

wow! nice rack system.. can you explain it little. my maroons are staring to lay eggs, I just found a bunch but I'm not ready and I need all the help I can get

Sure its a 50 dollar rack from Lowes. rated to hold 2000 lbs. I drilled all the tanks and have them draining into a sump which will soon have live rock as filtration. I might throw a skimmer on it too if i have the room. The top tank is a 20 long Next level down is a 20 long divided into 3 sections. next level down is 2- 6gallons and a 5 in the middle. Bottom is a rubbermaid sump also purchased from Lowes. Return pump is a genX pcx40 :) Pretty simple and cost me around 200 to put together.

Geeze! All of this just to breed fish???? That is pretty intense! So, from reading this, I'm assuming that once clowns begin to breed, the continue and continue, like the battery bunny! So, they can keep laying eggs, like every week for a very long time? Am I right or wrong? Just curious...by the way the babies are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

LOL!!!!!!!

That is for one pair. That also does not include the rotifer cultures, phytoplankton cultures, actual broodstock tank, and more misc. equipment.

Aticcus, that's not funny,

I am so tired setting up and rearing larvae, that the other day I fed red bull to the rots and drank the selco, the larvae can't catch them now...

Do these fish just keep having these for a long time or what???? I thought okay they will have eggs once a year, but by the sound of this it's like very week or other!

seahorse tank for fry

seahorse tank for fry

what do you guys think about using an existing seahorse tank to raise the fry? I know the seahorses (atleast mine because they try to eat anything in the tank smaller than their heads) and might pick at them. But, it is a low flow tank with biofiltration and a small hang on filter that is perfect. I have a 10 gallon sitting in my attic I could convert, but a 90 and a 20xtall with a 10 in my house would be a little excessive. my clowns have been cleaning a spot for about 1 week now and want to get the ball rolling.

also, what tips for raising them would you guys like to throw my way?

I know a tile on the spot they are cleaning is good to get the eggs planted on, but after I transfer them, what do I do?

You might put them in there after they grow up a bit and remove them before they get to big, but I wouldn't raise the fty in a tank with anything in it.

Fry wont do well in a sea horse tank. They need there own tank. Youll need rotifers as a first food for them which would quickly find there way into the filter. Use the 10 gallon and just have an airline in it and nothing else for the first few weeks. I highly recomend the book "Clownfishes" by Joyce Wilkerson.
