Tomoko's new 180

Haha I'm still around. We just haven't been able to make the last couple meetings. We always stay so busy in summer. We stay outside most of the time while we can. Between the animals, koi pond, 4 wheelers and the fact my oldest sons soccer started back up a couple months ago we just always seem to have stuff to do.

As far as cutting aluminum. Its not to hard. You can use a hack saw like Jason suggested. I use a metal chop say cause I'm lazy :)

Looks great Tomoko. I agree with Mariner though. I hate to see that 120g go down. I'm sure the 180g is coming along great though. :)

Hi Stranger!!

It's great to hear from you, Yoda. I hope you, your family, and your reef are doing well. Your green slimer is doing great in my 180 :)

My 180 is still rather sparse looking, but maybe in a couple of years it will be as pretty as my 120.

Thank you, joejoe.

I see that you have a planted tank. Do you collect various aquatic plants? We could have a plants swap, too, if enough people are interested.

I am happy to answer any question about planted aquarium. Just PM me anytime. If I don't know the answer, I can always get it from the big guy :)

Tomoko,

Thanks, I am doing good, as is my family. I don't have a reef anymore. When I graduated from UAH, I thought I would have more time for my hobby. Then, I got semi-promoted to project manager at work, my older son started playing sports, and my younger son got big enough to play every day. Between those 3 things, I have been so busy its been a blurr. My 120g started looking like a farm pond.

I gave away some surviving stuff, and then sold the tank. I am going to wait a while for my next aquarium, when I can dedicate weekend time to it. I may have to wait a few years for my kids to get older. I still love reeftanks, and aquariums in general, so I'll have a tank sometime in the future.

Jason

I am glad you guys are doing well. I remember the busy days. Enjoy your time with your kids. They grow up too fast. My three kids don't play with me any more :(

LOL, been there Yoda. Gave up my saltwater tank in the 1980's when my kids were small and money was tight. Didn't get back into it till 2003. C'ya in 20 years...maybe less.

Tomoko I enjoyed following ur updates I just started this hobby and my tank 2 mons ago and I'm in the ville... I really havnt ran into anyone interested in reef setups. Its nice to kno I'm not alone up here.

Hi rale2001,

Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you are interested in the progress of my tank. We have a few reefers up here as you might have noticed. We get together usually once a month.

However, November and December is not the easiest time to get with other reefers because of the busy holiday schedule that people have around this time of the year, but there is always a big frag swap up in Nashville in January to which a number of us go. The next one will be on Saturday January 23.

With that said, if you and other reefers in the area is interested in getting together casually, I suggest that we have a small get together early in December. I can probably have it here in my house on Saturday or Sunday afternoon if there is enough interest. We can do a small club frag swap or something :).

I would love to attend the meeting saturdays is perfect for me. I havnt started my reef yet tho I'm just getting my levels in my tank right. I still gotta get a skimmer and more powerful lighting. Hopefully next month ill be ready for it or maybe I am ready for coral and misunderstand what I need. I'm definitely looking forward to broading my scope.

I should update the thread with a few more pictures, shouldn't I.

The tank looks pretty much the same to me, but I lowered one of the lumen bright reflector a little (almost an inch). I felt that the light level was lower than the level I kept previously over my 120 despite the reputation of the reflector. My light blue acropora and a small pink bird nest frag from H@rry seem to be responding positively to the increased light level and turning brighter.

Over the past two months or so, I heard a lot about strong stray electricity killing delicate acropora in tanks. I recall that a few people talked about similar incidents in our meeting at Tritons Garden, too. I have a strong suspicion that the loss of the large pink milli could well be related to the strong current leak associated with the broken pump on my ASM G-2.

Here's some pictures from today. The tank is doing really well now. No more electrical problem (knock on wood). The most of my corals has regained their bright colors and are growing.

The picture came out a bit too blue. I hope that you can see a small change from the last picture.

An unknown baby blue acropora that was totally browned out after the move. Again the picture is a bit too bluish/darkish:
