Tony's 80g rimless cube

Hi all,
I've been on RC for a looooooong time and I've never formally introduced my tank on the sps forum. No time like the present, especially since I just redid the aquascape .

Tank- 32"x 30"x 22", built by myself with a black acrylic false back/overflow bio-cube-style.

Sump- standard 20g long

Frag tank- standard 20g long plumbed to the main system

Circulation - 4 vortech mp10's

Lighting- main-400w ushio 14k with 2 x 24w UVL super actinic and 2 x 24w ATI blue+ Frag tank - 120w custom LED fixture

Skimmer - Octopus SRO3000int

Return - Blueline hd 30

Media Reactor for 1/2 cup carbon & 1/4c gfo

Calcium reactor - MRC 4" dia single chamber reactor plus a converted phosban reactor for a second chamber

Kalk for topoff via old Ecotech kalk reactor

Thanks for all the kind words . I'll take a pic of the lighting & such in a day or two. I can't really take credit for the white balance because my tank is this white in person lol.

The perfect encrusting coral . Pure yellow Porites that was given to me by Sanjay Joshi. Why perfect? It's a rare color and it's a total wimp so it goes right around the bases of acros without hurting them.

Thanks very much! I do like this size, but if I could do it over, I would make it 42" front-to-back instead of 32".

Thanks! That is one of my favorite acros in my tank. I call it the Bananaberry. It was a frag from a Fiji gemmifera (the mother colony later died at the store), that I took a chance with. It's actually still a little brown from everything being moved around a month ago. Normally it looks like this :

That would be the ATL Rosy Red granulosa. Here's a better pic, although it's slightly more of a peachy-pink in person. A point & shoot can only do so much

Almost forgot to answer you. While I do believe that LED's can grow & color coral in the general sense, my particular setup has been lackluster. Typically deepwater stuff tends to do better, as do most chalices & other lps. My array is a 120w orphek knockoff, 50% blue, 25% purple, & 25% white. It has amazing par ( I have to keep it 3-4 feet from the bottom of the tank so I don't fry everything). One day when I have the money, I want to try again with some custom fixtures where I can more closely match the spectrum of the metal halide. I think instead of always asking if LED's grow coral, we should be asking which LED's grow coral.
