Too many Radions?

Obviously these lights aren't cheap and from the posts I've read it appears people are trying to get by with the minimum amount necessary. If we take cost out of the equation...

I currently have two gen 3 xr30w pros on a 48x24x24 DT. They've been up for about 2 months now. I'm wondering if two are enough or if there would be any benefit to adding one or even two more?

I think 2 would b enough but hey the more the marrier right. I have 5 gen 1's over 96X30 tank. But if money wasn't an issue I'd have 10 over my 300gallon. But I'm getting nice growth and color with what I currently have.
Here's my tank from last 4/19

Right, if money wasn't an issue what would be best? Is the most possible that can fit going to give the best lighting for the coral?

Nice growth btw. Is that really 4 months worth of growth?

John,

For an aquarium that size, 2 XR30w Radions is more then sufficient. The XR30w G3 Pro Radion is designed to light an area up to 30 x 30 x 30 inches.

Impressive growth. Would you mind sharing your schedule?

I would guess that because you can adjust the intensity of the lights that increasing the number only provides better coverage. I could be wrong though and that there would be some adverse effect.

But would 3 or even 4 have any adverse effect? Could it actually improve coverage?

For sure ok so up until the beginning of August I ran my light 12 hours on and 12 off. The ran from 9 to 9 with 10 hours at 100% full power with a one hour ramp up and ramp down. But do to the high Edison bill of July I was forced to make a few altercations to my lighting schedule. I didn't want to run them at full power durning peek energy consumption hours. So here's my current schedule

So that's 6 hours at 100% intensity and 6 at 50%? Any problems with bleaching, especially when you ran them for 10 hours at 100%? How long was your acclimation period until you got to 100%?

Also, if you wouldn't mind exporting a .etg file of your schedule from Ecosmart Live I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

John, I have a 24x24 cube with only one radion over my cube. I've been running at 55% 17k for about 12hrs and then a 20k 2 hr before and after.

I feel the only reason that you would want more for this coverage is to avoid spot lighting effect.

Others may want to chime in on this but you probably don't need three unless you want it.

Now, I'm just getting my Sps settled and in not experienced like the other folks here but that's my .02.

Check out rovster's tank in the Florida marine aquarium society club forum. He has impressive growth and runs more lights than average, but he doesn't get over 65% power to my knowledge.

Acclimation period? I laugh my a** off when people say they acclimate there corals to there lights. I've never and mean NEVER acclimated any corals to my lights. I've been running my radions at 100% sense my current tanks has been up and before that. I put the coral where I want it and glue it down. Yes some times I do have to move things but mostly lps. I don't get the whole acclimating corals to our man made light deal. Come on guys these corals have spent thousands of years under the brightest light of all the SUN. There's nothing u can tell me that will make me believe our little man made led lights are brighter then the sun. Yes a metal halide with out its uv glass lens might not be as bright but does give off a lot of uv witch can kill corals. But acclimating sps to LEDs makes me laugh.

For bleaching no. But I have had a little receding on the under side of sps corals that are towards the bottom of the tank. But really nothing that has me concerned yet. But it has only been a month
