Hey guys,
I am currently using 6, 2', 20w NO flourescents on my 6' 125gal. It came with the tank, which I bought used. This is a temporary measure since I have the parts to create a 4 6' bulb VHO (2 x icecap660s, end caps, bulbs) setup. I hope to have the new canopy ready in about a month. For that reason, I don't want to go out and buy a bunch of new NO bullbs and will be using what I have.
I am currently running 3 7100K blue actinics and 3 6000K 50/50s. Aesthetically, I'd prefer a little less blue but I'm willing to live with it. My question is whether this much actinic and/or blue light is good for the livestock? I only have a small anthelia polyp colony (placed at the top of the rocks, about 8" deep) as far as photosynthetic animals, but I have snails, hermits and will be getting a foxface rabbitfish soon and since my tank is new, I'd actually prefer to just start the algae going. I also have corraline booster plates from ipsf.
I have a couple of regular, non-actinic bulbs I could throw in there. There's no K value on the bulbs, but they have a very pink look to them, especially when put in next to the 50/50s. I figured these were cheap, probably past their useful life, and so I didn't want to use them, but if too much actinic could be a problem, maybe I should.
