too much flow and light?

Title should really say "I suck at zoa's." But I digress. For some reason I just can't keep any sort of zoa alive, closest thing I can keep alive are some brown polyps that have survived a tank crash couple years ago and sat in a dark almost empty tank...yet zoas just shrink and go away. The few frags ive had have been placed darn near everywhere in the tank. Im running 2 250w phoenix bulbs and a couple tunze on my 75, maybe this is just too much flow and light? Ive tried placing them everywhere and just can't seem to make them happy. I run my tank to be best suited for my sps but i still would love to get a number of zoas to stay alive.

Maybe your water is too clean?? I have lots of zoa's and they spread like wild fire!!! 2-3 new polyps a week but I have a more nutrient rich water.

I thought about that. My fish load is fairly light: anthias, black clown, clown goby, and recently added mandarin. I just recently started feeding more frequently to accomodate the anthias' food habbit, perhaps Ill find a sweet medium of slightly higher nutrient rich water for the zoa's and sps. Thanks!

too clean wont cause unhealthy zoas IME, nor will lots of flow.

They wont grow or spread quite as fast as if in water a little bit nutrient rich, but it wont make them sick or unhealthy....unless of course your tank is too clean to keep any sps alive either

well at least i won't contribute anything to flow. One frag is the same size and has several new polyps, but almost all of them have been closed up for 2 months. on the other hand, another frag which is mere inches from the first have all its original polyps, stays open, but has completely shrunk in size.

Time to look at the log and check my params again, thanks!
