too much flow?

Just wanted to get some opinions...
I have a 40 breeder that will be all soft corals (just a kenya tree and shrooms right now). I currently have a maxijet 1200(295gph) at the back bottom corner blowing behind my rocks and a maxijet 400(106gph) at the top right corner. The flow is random and definately no deadspots behind the rocks, but it just looks like it needs more flow. So I was thinking about ordering a koralia 750 to replace the 1200 and a koralia 240 to replace the 400. Would this be too much?

i think it would be good. i have the same size tank with 60x turnover and only my mushrooms seem to mind it when they have too much flow on them. i think you could get up to 30x with softies and still be fine.

I am currently building a 40 breeder setup and will be using 2 koralia evo 1400's. If you have never had an impeller type PH than you have to remember that the flow will feel nothing like that of a jet stream type PH. In my 20 tall I had 2 aquaclear 30's. I dont remember how much flow they had but I think it somewhere around 180gph. I bought a koralia nano 425 figuring it would be a wider pattern with way more flow. I was dead wrong. I ended up buying a second k nano 425 and still wish I went bigger. I would go with 2 750's Or a single 1400 with the k nano 425 behind the rocks. That way it will also open you up for other coral's such as SPS down the line. The 750's will probably never reach the other side of your tank.

Yea I have never had one before just the maxijets. The MJ1200 by itself will blow all the way across the tank and keep things moving.
Just looking at the numbers thats why I was concerned.
Is the output just wider kinda more diffused?
So you think I should just replace both with two K 750s? That would give me about a 37X turnover rate.
There isn't too much of a price difference with the nanos and the 750's so I could do that easily.

I understand what you are saying about the MJs but that flow (stream) is likely not making it through your rockwork. The Koralia's flow will be much wider and you may not be able to (or want to) have a Koralia down near your sand. I would think 2 larger Koralias (750 or 1050) along with the little MJ shooting behind the rocks would serve you well. Keep in mind that flow is not only important to corals but also important to the health of your tank by helping to keep waste suspended so they can be filtered out and to push water through your rocks so they beneficial bacteria can "filter" it.

FWIW, I have a 40B with 2 x K 1050's and I have high and low flow areas dictaed by my rockwork and how I place the PH's in the tank. I agree with dublo8, you will likely want/need more flow.

I have 2 750's in my 40breeder, I also have 2 425 nano's in there, and my return is pushing around 350gph so I would say you can add the 2 750's with no problem.
