Too much flow?

Just wondering if having two Tunze streams 6125's in my 60 gallon mixed reef tank. I don't have much in corals yet.

Here's what I do have:
elegance coral
rose tip anemone
4 sps corals
frogspawn
green and red plate

Is using both too much flow? If not, would you run them on opposite sides of the tank? Would you run them both on the same side? Would you run them from the back on the tank? I'm running them with my Apex controller. I turned one of them off and am currently only using one.

I'm wondering if its too much flow and whether or not it's encouraging algae growth just like my micro algae grow with high current.

Let me know your thoughts.

Do you mean 6025? The 6125 is a lot of pump for a 60 gallon tank, especially for those inhabitants, elegance and anemones don't typically like such high flow rates. If you meant 6025, that would be fine, in fact both would be a bit underpowered.

Thanks for the reply.

I misspoke on my original post. They're controllable nanostream 6055's.

Should I run both or just one? Back or opposite sides? Could the higher flow be contributing to some of the algae growth?

As for the elegance; I have him on he bottom of the tank where he doesn't get too much flow. I've seen pics on the forum where guys have them getting tons of flow.

While different algaes grow in different current zones, the flow would not contribute to algae growth, it would only select the species which would dominate. Usually in higher flow the dominant algaes are turf and coralline.

The pumps you have would be perfect for that size tank.

Elegance generally live amongst the sea grasses and the flow is fairly gentle compared to the open reef.

Great. With the size of the pumps and the programming on the apex, what placement would you recommend? I would rather put them on the back on the tank, but that may not work well with my programming.

Any suggestions?

I am not familiar enough with the Apex to suggest a program. The program we would recommend for our controllers would have one pump on and idling at 30% and another pump on and pulsing from 30-100% every 3 seconds. After 6 hours they would switch. Placement would generally be in the back corners aimed to the front halfway between the center and opposite diagonal corner.

Do you have a recommended placement and program for a 90 gallon (48x18x24) mixed reef tank using a 6055, 6105 and ReefKeeper APC? Thanks.

We do not license, endorse or test any other brands of controller so I am not familiar with programming options for non Tunze controllers. I would follow the same general guidelines, however, I would layout the pumps in such a way that the higher flow corals are nearer the 6105.
