Too much flow

I have a Tunze 6095 with an older single controller on a 25 gallon tank and I want to have less flow in my tank.

What are my options?

One. Tunze sells an electric cell to reduce flow at night. Only problem is that nowhere can I find by how much the flow is reduced. Does this affect the wave pattern at all or only the velocity? I do not know if I can tape the sensor into fooling it to believe it is always night.

Two. I cut the length of each of the blades by the same amount. Will that create vibrations or other problems? Has anyone tried this before?

Three. Change controller and buy the newer version. But do they newer version allow to reduce flow like I wish to do?

Four. My only real option is to get a new pump?

What do you think?

The 6091, 7091 and 7092 controllers use the 7094.050 photocell which is still available.

At night the pumps stop pulsing and run at whatever the power 2 or speed 2 knob is set to, in the case of the 6091 or 7092 in wave mode, the pump stops completely for the night. Basically, you cannot reduce the flow anymore than the controller allows you to.

You could cut the blades, an imbalance and resulting noise is a definite potential problem, for that reason I might just instead buy the 6055.700 propeller assembly.

The 7090 can be bought and plugged into the older pumps, part 7090.000, it will allow a slightly lower speed, but not as much on the older pumps.

Honestly, the older pumps can go the slowest, your power supply can have the voltage changed either by a switch (pre 2011) or jumpers (2011-mid 2015) and if you lower the voltage and run the controller at a lower speed, the pump can go so low it would work in a 25 gallon without issue. If you lost the set of jumpers, they are still available, part 6055.241

Thank you for such a quick answer!

At this point I might just switch for a 6055 propeller as you said.

Although I just checked on Canadian reef sites and nobody seems to have this propellor for sale. I will email one in my city and see if they can order it for me.

Sorry for the late reply, I missed this post. It would work, however it will be louder and click because the 6025/6045 drive unit has more free play since it is a different motor type.

Ok I'll go for the 6055.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!
