do you think 150 watts of de metal halide and 4 t5 bulbs would be too much for softies in a 17 inch deep tank? the hqi would be 10k or 14k and the 4 t5's would be for actinic lighting.

the outer orbit t5ho is what im looking at. i cannot seem to find anyone else who makes 150watt and t5 fixtures. i think ideally id like only 2 t5 bulbs.....

anyone one know of any fixtures that have DE 150watt metal halide and 2 t5's?

thanks in advance

you can never have too much light, i would go with a 10k bulb if all of the t5's are just actinic. even then i think its going to be pretty blue. hth.

I have the Orbit HQI 36" and am about to replace the 10k with something else. The 10K is too yellow even with the 2x96 watts of actinic. Will be buying a 14k bulb soon.

IMO you can have to much light, however I don't think that your lighting plans are to much.

If you want to use two bulbs, only use two.

Personally I have found retro kits betteer then fixtures for my use, but I'm a tiny bit handy so that works for me, and have a canopy to hide the gear.

IME the 14K bulbs are balanced enough not to run atnics for supplementaion. You could still use the atnics for the dusk dawn effect if you so desired.
